Obituary for William Leo Goodrich

William “Bill” Leo Goodrich of Hobe Sound, FL and previous longtime resident of Easton, MA, loving husband of devoted wife Ilze A. Goodrich of (53) years passed away suddenly on Friday, November 17, 2023, when his heart could no longer hold all the love he had for the world. He was 78.

He is survived by his children, daughter Alexandra (Goodrich) Gerne and her husband Christopher Gerne of Westfield, N.J., as well as his son Andrew William Goodrich and his wife Amy Goodrich of Scituate, MA and the lights of his life, his six grandsons, Luke, William and Kieran Gerne of Westfield, N.J., and Jackson, Maxwell and William Goodrich of Scituate, MA.

Bill ran a successful insurance agency in East Milton Square for over 40 years, with the support of family, friends and clients, who quickly became friends. He was also known for his countless hours of volunteer work at Easter Seals and at his beloved summer camp Agassiz Village in Poland, ME, where he spent many summers as a child. Bill was known to many as ‘coach’ for his volunteer time on the soccer pitch, Little League baseball fields and on the basketball court. He was a great lover of music, with an encyclopedic knowledge of early rock and roll, a skilled competitor at all types of trivia, and the ability to make new friends with ease. Bill could command a room and hold court with endless hours of stories to tell about the family he loved so much.

Bill is one of five children born of the late Leo T. Goodrich and Claire (Desalvo) Goodrich and predeceased by brother Donald Goodrich of Narraganset, RI. He is survived by his sisters Lee (Goodrich) Mahoney of Quincy, MA; Anne Marie (Goodrich) Eddy and her husband Errol of Bridgewater, MA; his brother Paul Goodrich, and his wife Jackie of Quincy, MA. Also survived by his brother-in-law, Michael Mahoney, and sisters-in-law Christine Goodrich and Joan Goodrich.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in Saint Agatha Church, Adams Street at Brook Road, Milton, Tuesday, November 28 at 11:30 AM. Relatives and friends invited. Visiting hours and interment private.

In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in Bill's name to the Parkinson's Foundation. www.parkinson.org

I am so saddened to have just learned of Bill's passing. He always held a unique place in my thoughts, going back to his special kindness and help when we first moved to Boston from Florida in 1958. He was such a fun cousin! As a lost 13-year-old, he was extra nice and helped ease the transition for me. I have never forgotten his help, his humor and his friendliness. My thoughts and prayers are with all of you, his family, during this difficult time. Nancy Martens Merz Nordstrom (Frieda's Daughter)

Billy was a friendly and happy man, he is now in heaven with my brother Kevin, playing their rock and roll oldies music together. Lucy Naymie

Uncle Billy was adored by my family. I was honored to meet him and am so happy my family and I spent time with him in NJ just 2 years ago over a great Italian dinner at Alexandra's house. He shared jokes and was so complimentary to my son, my family and still talked about our (Eric and Jackie's) wedding with such happiness! A wonderful man, a wonderful soul and I feel blessed to have known him. Sending big hugs to all the Goodrich family members. Love The Kvelums Family. (Eric, Jackie, Eric Jr)
