Obituary for William G Schmidt

It is with broken hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved Bill. Bill passed peacefully on Sunday November 24, 2024 just shy of his 70th birthday, after a long hard fought battle with many health complications.

William George Schmidt was born on December 4th, 1954 to Leo and Millie and was raised in the Columbia Point neighborhood of Dorchester along with his three siblings. Bill always spoke fondly about his childhood and the lifelong friends he had from Columbia Point and loved reminiscing about the good old days. From very proud and humble beginnings, Bill worked his way from tending bar at several Boston night clubs in his early 20’s to being a highly accomplished salesman at Horizon Beverage company, earning many awards, including top Bacardi salesman throughout the entire United States on two separate occasions. Being the hard-working, thoughtful, kindhearted and funny guy that he was, Bill made many connections and unbreakable bonds in his 30 years working in the beverage industry, some of which became as close as family. With a warm and generous personality and a twinkle in his eye, he always had something for everyone and would do anything he could to help someone out.

Anyone that knew Bill knew about his love for the Bruins, card games, a good political debate, his home in Punta Gorda Florida, and most importantly, his family. A loving husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, brother in-law and uncle he was adored by so many and anyone lucky enough to call him family knew his unconditional love. There are so many wonderful memories of time spent sitting around a campfire in New Hampshire or a crowded table at a holiday gathering, telling stories, singing and laughing the whole night through. Truly a great man in so many ways, he will forever be loved and deeply missed.

Bill is preceded by his mother and father, and brother James and survived by his wife Karen, three children, Michael (Shauna), Leo (Allison), Jackie, two grandchildren Will and Danny, and his sisters Carol and Patti (Ron).

In lieu of flowers donations can be made to St Jude’s Children’s Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 a favorite charity of Bill’s.

A Celebration of Life and Visiting Hours will be held on Thursday, December 5th, 2024, at Dolan Funeral Home, 1140 Washington Street. DORCHESTER LOWER MILLS, 4 - 7pm.

Condolences

My heartfelt condolences to Karen, Michael, Leo and Jackie as well as the extended Schmidt Family. We have you in our thoughts and prayers. I managed the MA Off-Premise Market for Bacardi USA from 2003-2015. I worked closely with Bill over the years. He and I became good friends, and I admired his work ethic and all the work he did to position my brands to win. Over the years, Bacardi supported many incentive trips to sunny islands in the Caribbean. I can't recall a trip that Bill didn't earn, nor a sunny destination without Bill and Karen. While there were many special people I worked with during my tenure in MA, Bill was and remains one of the best! He earned the Bacardi Salesman of the Year on two occasions and will always be an honorary member of the Bacardi Family. Rest in peace Bill.
