Obituary for Wallace Swindell

Wallace Eugene Swindell, known fondly to many as "Uncle Gene," was born in Boston, Massachusetts, on April 1, 1959, to the late Daniel L. Burton Sr. and Margaret Deloris Swindell. Gene was a beloved father, brother, grandfather, uncle and friend, whose presence enriched the lives of all who had the pleasure of knowing him. Gene's journey through life was as colorful and vibrant as the city he called home.
Growing up in Boston's Dorchester neighborhood, Gene moved to various parts of the city, including East Boston, and South Boston, leaving a lasting impact on each community. Whether he was playing Acey Duey with family and friends, enjoying a game of cards, or taking long walks, Gene had a unique ability to make those around him feel Gene had a lifelong passion for his work as a painter, and he proudly retired after many years of dedication to his craft. His expertise and artistry were evident in every project he touched, leaving behind a legacy of beautifully finished work that spoke to his skill and commitment.
Throughout his life, Gene took great pride in many things. He loved to paint, adding his own personal touch to the world around him. But perhaps most of all, he was known for his love of grilling. Where there was smoke, there you would find Gene, always ready to share a meal, a drink, and a good conversation. His presence at family gatherings will Gene found joy in his family. He was deeply proud of his children: Auburnee Swindell-Barbour (Aaron), Christopher Swindell (Diana), Shane Wheeler, Shanita Thomas, Master Wallace Eugene Swindell Thomas, Marc Thomas, Damien Thomas, DaShaun Thomas, Shondell Jenkins, and Larry Jenkins. His love for his grandchildren and great-grandchildren was unmatched, and they brought him endless joy, often gathering around him as he shared stories, laughter, and warmth. Gene was also surrounded by a large family of siblings, each of whom will cherish the memories they shared with him. He is survived by his sisters Carmen Christina Grandy, Francesca Woodberry, Linda Burton, Sadie Burton Goss, Letha Burton Stewart, Cathy Burton, Denny March, and Danielle March, as well as his brother Daniel L. Burton Jr. (Maria). He was preceded in death by his siblings Kathy Brewington, Lee Swindell, and
Gene's passing on March 27, 2025, leaves a void that can never be filled, but his memory will live on in the hearts of his children, grandchildren, siblings, extended family, and countless friends. He leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and the kind of unwavering support that made him a constant in the lives of so many.

Funeral service, Friday, April 4, 2025, in the Dolan Funeral Home, 1140 Washington Street, DORCHESTER LOWER MILLS, MA 02124. Visiting Hour 10 - 11 am. Interment Mt. Hope Cemetery.
