Obituary for Theodore Shorter, Jr.

Mr. Theodore Shorter, Jr. was born on September 25, 1938 to the late Theodore Shorter, Sr. and Clara Shorter in Florence, Georgia. Theodore was called home on Sunday, July 2, 2023. He was preceded in death by his wife, Annie Jean Shorter, siblings Doris Shorter, John Flintroy, Charles Shorter, Sr., Sammy Shorter and son, John Ward.

Theodore relocated to Boston, MA from Florida to begin a new chapter of life. He worked at the John Walker Company for many years in the shipping/receiving field, where he retired from making venetian blinds. He loved the work he did and was dedicated and passionate about the craft.

Theodore was known to many as “Teddy”, “Uncle Mussie”, and “Papa.” He was such a tough man and he made sure everyone knew it. Everyone also knew him to be stubborn and outspoken, but knew they could count on having the best times with him. He will be remembered by his sense of humor, his love for his family, and by his everyday encounters with his neighbors. Theodore enjoyed watching sports, cooking dinner, talking on the phone and taking trips to Connecticut. He also enjoyed the random pop-up visits from his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Theodore leaves to cherish his memory with his three sons, Dirk Shorter, Carl Shorter and Jeffrey Shorter; four sisters, Lula Shorter, Diane Pitt, Brenda Shorter and Shirlene Nelson; one brother, Arthur Shorter; ten grandchildren, John Watson, Jaleana Watson, Dasia Shorter, Talisa Skeen, Danea Shorter, Elijah Shorter, Aaliyah Johnson, Adrianne Johnson, Kayli Shorter and Anthony Shorter, five great grandchildren, Cedric Lewis, Robert Lewis, Jamari Boyd, Alana Johnson-Francois and Amir Johnson-Williams and a host of nieces and nephews, family and friends.

Visitation will be held at Morning Star Baptist Church, 1257 Blue Hill Avenue, MATTAPAN on Wednesday, July 12th from 10-11AM. Funeral Service to begin at 11AM. Interment at Oak Lawn Cemetery. Relatives and friends invited.

Theo, was a family man all day long. The love for his wife, kids and grandchildren were always shown in his words. I have spent many hours on Thetford Ave. laughing and talking. You will always be in my fondest memories.
