Sylvester Kinney was a son, nephew, husband, father, grandfather & great-grandfather. He was a phenomenal musician and an amazing vocalist. Sylvester lived a fulfilling life. He attended English High School in Boston and graduated from Santa Monica community College with his associates degree in Psychology while living in California. He served 4 years in the Marine Corps, where he began his music career by joining The Emblems. After being Honorably Discharged in 1963, Sylvester returned home to Boston to pursue his music career. He joined 9 Lords and began performing locally and on the road. Sylvester performed at well-known places, such as The Sugar Shack.
After many years on the road, he ended his music career to settle down as a family man.
Sylvester Kinney leaves to celebrate his life as a proud father, grandfather, great-grandfather, entertainer, and businessman. Sylvester is proceeded in death by his first-born daughter Tia Rhonda Kinney born to first wife Crystal TiaJuana Kinney-Curran, his second wife Linda Schriesheim, his grandson Kiilu Edwards and his mother Mrs. Emma Kinney. Sylvester is survived by his aunt Rosalee Hodges, his wife Evelyn, his son Syle Kinney and his wife Audra Kinney. His daughter Yishmene East and her husband Don East, and daughter Templar Kinney and her fiancé Rashad Hobbs. He will be forever missed by his 11 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren with a host of aunts, uncles, cousins and his forever loyal companion, his dog Boston.
Sylvester's sun rise started February 25, 1940 - and after his sunset on June 5, 2023, he will forever shine bright amongst the stars in the sky watching over us all until we see him again.
Visiting Hours Monday, June 8, 2023, in the Dolan Funeral Home, 1140 Washington Street, DORCHESTER LOWER MILLS, 10 – 11 am. Funeral Service Monday, June 8, 2023, at 11 o’clock. Interment Private.
