Stephen M. Downing, of Humarock, formerly of Quincy, born on Halloween 1948, died on October 4, 2022, after a brief battle with cancer.

Steve was born and raised in the Crow Point section of Hingham and was proud of his Hingham roots. He loved sailing with the Crow Point Sailing Club and attended St. Paul’s School. He went on to Archbishop Williams High School, where he met the love of his life, his wife of 51 years, Susan (Craig) Downing. After serving as a medic in the Army Reserves, he attended Long Island University in New York.

Steve has been a REALTOR for over 40 years, a former President of the Quincy and South Shore Board of Realtors and has been affiliated with Century 21 on Beale Street in Wollaston for the last 28 years. He raised his family on Brook Street in Wollaston, where he lived for 38 years, summering on Humarock Beach, where he will leave a piece of his heart.

Steve loved a good joke, a good book, a good cigar and a good pickleball match. He had recently discovered Venice, Florida, where he spent some of his happiest times.

Steve is survived by his wife Susan, his three children and spouses, Michael and Julie Lawson Downing of Kingston, Sarah and Jeffrey Farkas of Hingham and James and Genevieve O’Brien Downing of Quincy. He treasured his six grandchildren, Ryan, Brendan, Emily and Meghan Farkas and Thomas and William Downing, and tolerated his three grand dogs Rosie, Bunker and Benny. His brother Jeremiah resides in Carver and Steve was predeceased by brothers John, Francis, Walter and Peter Downing. He was the son of the late Walter and Emily Downing, former owners of Downing Cleaners in Hingham.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in Saint Agatha Church, 432 Adams Street, Milton, Monday October 10 at 10:30 AM. Relatives and friends invited. Visiting hours at Dolan Funeral Home, 460 Granite Avenue, EAST MILTON SQUARE, Sunday 4-7 PM.
