Obituary for Stanley D. Dworkin

Stanley D. Dworkin of Milton, passed away October 19th after a lengthy illness. Stan was born in Bridgeport, Ct. in 1943 and was raised in Dorchester where he attended Boston Public Schools. In 1970, Stan married “the love of his life”, Maureen Gunning and together they lived in her hometown of Milton where they raised their family.

Stan was an avid animal lover and longtime volunteer with the Milton Animal League. He loved dressing as Santa for the annual Holiday Party and posed with countless dogs, cats, bunnies and many exotic animals! He started the donation project, which became affectionately known as “Stan’s Cans” to raise money for the shelter and its guests. For over twenty-five years, he collected and counted more than one hundred and fifty thousand dollars in cash and change from those cans that are still around local business in Milton and surrounding towns. He was extremely proud of his time as a volunteer and made lifelong friends with staff and volunteers.

Stan was most proud of being “Papa” to his two grandchildren and loved spending time with them. He always said how lucky he was to have them living next door in their multi-family home where he was able to see them every night for “tea time” to enjoy a
“cuppa” and watch Jeopardy together.

Stan is survived by his children; Tommy Dworkin and his wife Zuzana of Weymouth; his daughter Sheila Harris and her husband Scott of Milton and granddaughters, Maeve and Maggie Harris of Milton. He also leaves his brother-in-law, Larry Gillis of Milton and many loving nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

He is predeceased by his wife, Maureen Dworkin, parents, Morris and Pauline and his sisters, Natalie Dworkin and Gail Gillis.

Visitation will be at Dolan Funeral Home, 460 Granite Avenue in Milton, 9-11 am on Friday, October 23, 2026. Internment at Milton Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, please send donations in Stan’s memory to the Milton Animal League, 100 Access Rd. Milton, MA 02186
