Obituary for Shirley Ann (Murnane) Davidson
Shirley Ann Davidson (Murnane), 93, of North Scituate and formerly of Milton, died unexpectedly on Friday, January 5, 2024.
Born in 1930 to Edward M. Murnane and Elizabeth M. Golden Murnane in North Quincy, MA, she graduated from North Quincy High School in the celebrated class of 1948 where she was head cheerleader and made lifelong friends. After graduation from the Katherine Gibbs School of Boston, she began her career at the Top Company when Boston had a thriving wool industry. She met husband of 65 years, Robert “Dibber” Davidson (deceased 2021), during Marblehead Race Week. They began married life in Wollaston before residing in Milton for fifty years while raising their three children. Later, she returned to the office with the Boston Mayor’s Office of Cultural Affairs, the architectural firm, Castro-Blanco Piscioneri & Feder and the historic Hugo’s Lighthouse restaurant.
A summer resident of North Scituate since 1965, she treasured her Minot neighborhood, living there full-time after moving from Milton. She was happiest by the ocean, both on the beach and sailing. As she got older, worrying about missing out helped her overcome her fear of flying, enjoying trips to California, Hawaii, Florida, and the Caribbean, as well as numerous trips to NYC. She skied the slopes of Vermont, Maine, and New Hampshire, where she held ski passes until 85 years old. Voracious newsreader. Sunday morning was appointment television when she watched as much political news as she could. Relaxed with entertaining TV series ranging from Columbo to The Crown, catching the final episode just before her death. Devout Catholic, fastidious homemaker, cherished mother and best pal to her children: Peter (deceased 2004), Brian and Janey.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, January 16, 2024 at 10:30 AM at Sacred Heart Church in North Quincy (Divine Mercy Parish) 386 Hancock Street, Quincy, MA 02171, her childhood parish and the church of her wedding. Interment to follow at Milton Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, please recognize the exceptional care of her husband by the staff of the Ruth McClain M.D. Hospice House, Braintree, MA. Donations may be sent for McClain Hospice House @ www.OldColonyHospice.org or to Old Colony Hospice Philanthropy Office, 321 Manley Street, West Bridgewater, MA 02379
