Obituary for Samuel L Harris

Samuel L. Harris, 73, peacefully departed this life on July 10, 2026, after a courageous journey with ALS.

Born on July 6, 1953, in Selma, Alabama,

Sam was the beloved son of Ruby Mae Kimble and Lawrence Lee Harris.

Sam enjoyed teasing and making people laugh; he also was quiet and stubborn. Once his mind was set on something, it was locked in. Although he did not graduate from high school, Sam attended trade school and became a skilled welder. He was known for his strong work ethic and his willingness to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. Outside of work, he enjoyed working out, music, mentoring others, cutting hair, repairing cars, and tackling just about any handyman project. His favorite saying was, "Going to make a dollar," a phrase that perfectly reflected his determination, resourcefulness, and drive.

Sam was preceded in death by Mother Ruby "Dea" Kimble, Father Lawrence Lee Harris, Brothers Willie Nelson and Lawrence Harris Jr.

Sam leaves to cherish his memory his loving daughter, Twanya Lawson; his son, Samuel L. Harris; his sister, Georgia M. Taylor; his grandsons, James Lawson-Johnson and Justice Lawson-Johnson; his granddaughter, Zara Harris; his uncle, Lenny Harris; his aunt, Deloris Harris; his paternal sisters, Mary McGee, Lillie Tolbert, Lucy Johnson, Beatrice Jackson, Angela Harris, Lena Blakes, Gloria Effinger, Gladys Grayson, Linda Davis, Melissa Harris, Lelia Edward, and Joyce Ann Moore; his paternal brothers, Eddie Willings, Johnnie Earl Harris, and Darriel Stevenson; along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, and dear friends who will forever cherish his memory.

Sam will be remembered as a devoted father, proud grandfather, loyal family member, faithful friend, mentor, and a man who was always willing to help others. His kindness, generosity, strength, and unforgettable spirit touched the lives of many. Though he will be deeply missed, his legacy of hard work, love, and service will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.

Viewing will be held at the Dolan Funeral Home, 1140 Washington Street, DORCHESTER LOWER MILLS on Monday, July 20th from 10-11AM. Funeral Service to Begin at 11AM. Interment at Oak Lawn Cemetery.

This one is like a punch in the gut. Sam will be missed more than words can say. He was so funny and could always deliver a great punch line. Sam would say, "A good friend, will bail you out; a better friend will go in with you". Rest easy my friend and say hello to my son on the other side. Your sister from another mother, Vanessa Scott
