Obituary for Robert W. "Dibber" Davidson

Robert W. Davidson “Dibber” of North Scituate passed away peacefully of natural causes on December 14, 2021. Born on June 1, 1929 to Arthur Whitfield Davidson and Mary (Keene) Davidson in the Savin Hill neighborhood of Boston MA. Summered his entire life in the Minot neighborhood of North Scituate, MA. Resident of Milton MA for over 50 years. After serving his country during the Korean War, he was employed first by the Engineering Division of Metropolitan District Commission and later by the Massachusetts Water Resources Authority for 42 years. Survived by his wife of 65 years, Shirley (Murnane) Davidson, his son Brian P. Davidson of New Jersey and his daughter Janey E. Davidson of Minot, MA. He was the father of the late Peter J. Davidson. He was predeceased by his siblings: Arthur W. Davidson, Jr., Mary Eileen Leary, John P. Davidson, Louise Sullivan and Barbara V. Blackstone. Captivated by sailboats and the water from the age of 12, he owned many boats (sailboats only) throughout his life. Loved the freedom of his wooden sailboats; the one place he was boss! His last and favorite sailboat was his 36 foot yawl “STORMY”, upon which many relaxing hours were spent. 80-year member of the Savin Hill Yacht Club. Excellent craftsman and master of all tools. Chef of all major dinners. With family, he cooked, swam, sailed, gardened, tinkered, joked and reminisced. With friends, he sailed and joked. With himself, he read, sailed and napped. Taught his children to explore the rocks of Minot, brave the rough and chilly ocean of New England and navigate the marshes of Minot, Scituate and Cohasset. Passed the winter months by reading, baking cookies, skating outdoors, sledding and skiing. Remember Dib on your next adventure on the water, in the kitchen, in the garden and/or at the library. Funeral and Burial were private; interment in Milton Cemetery. His family would like to recognize the exceptional care by the staff of the Ruth McClain M.D. Hospice House, Braintree, MA. Donations in Robert’s name may be sent for McClain Hospice House @ www.OldColonyHospice.org or to Old Colony Hospice Philanthropy Office, 321 Manley Street, West Bridgewater, MA 02379
