Obituary for Robert L. (Bobby Hot Rod) Jepson, Jr.

Robert L. (Bobby Hot Rod) Jepson, Jr. died suddenly April 27, 2026, in Limestone, Maine.

Bob was a longtime resident of Milton, Massachusetts, and more recently Limestone Maine. He is the son of the late Robert L. and Esther M. Jepson of Milton; brother of Stephanie (Kenan) Foley of Duxbury, Ma and Victoria Jepson of Bedford, Ma; former husband of the late Janet Hakanson Jepson, father of Haley Jepson of Hull MA.

Bobby was a graduate of Boston College High School and the Isenberg School of Management, University of Massachusetts, Amherst. Bob grew up in Milton’s Blue Hills. In those young days he was surrounded by fields for play; friends & farm animals, and four wonderful grandparents - all nearby, all of whom deeply loved & enjoyed him.

Young Bobby was a thrill seeker, and that never changed. Days at Cape Cod, friends on speedboats, go karts & motorbikes. He was always in motion. Bob loved to learn. His interests, widespread. Never without a book, he’d hand them off to acquaintances & friends and always have one for his doctor & dentist. He could build or rebuild most anything - anything that could be fun & had speed. He often created what he needed. Cars, boats, bikes- he was a craftsman & innovator. As a kid he’d brainstorm new ideas and spend hours with friends in the family garage. ’55 Chevys, a Chevy Corvair, slant sixes & drag racers all came and went - his stunningly restored 1929 Ford Roadster, a work of art; His 1957 Chevy Delivery & 1932 Ford, both featured in Hot Rod magazine.

Professionally, Bob spent years in sales at 3M and Nashua Paper, then moved into the fields of Static Control & Metal Finishing, all following his post-graduate year as bellhop at the Sugarbush Inn, Vermont. He stayed to ski - and was good enough to pick up an occasional run with the Austrian Olympic ski team.

In 1996, Bob and his wife, Jan, travelled to China and brought home their beloved, Haley. She was the joy of his life and they spent the first few years, inseparable. With Haley in the baby carrier, they traveled along to every job & every event.

Bob sought out other creative & edgy spirits - daredevils, visionaries, adventurers. Always something more to learn. More adventure. More thrilling. Restless spirits create, wonder, and take a risk. Sailing was a lifelong passion. He’d partner with a friend and delight in bringing a snowbird’s 40 foot yawl up from Florida to New England, or sail out from Scituate in the family sailboat and later, his own. He could tell many wonderful stories about experiences at sea. More recently, Bob bonded with his Loring (Maine) Landsailing friends for adventures in Blokart racing and travel. Friends say his beginning as a Land sailor, 3 years ago, was inauspicious, but at the March 2026 National Blokart event in Las Vegas, placed first in his category, making him eligible for the World Cup Races.

Bob was charismatic, interesting, super intelligent, adventurous, funny. He was a foodie. Loved dogs, chocolate, new music, the Boston sports teams - a hiker, biker and a world traveler. He lived it all & his friends were many.

Bobby was a recent member of St Louis Catholic Church, Limestone Maine and was baptized and confirmed at St Elizabeth’s parish, Milton, MA, where his funeral mass will be held.

Donations may be made to: Friends of the Aroostook National Wildlife Refuge, PO Box 554, 97 Refuge Rd, Limestone, ME 04750

In the days since Bob’s passing, there have been several rare & beautiful sightings by family & friends all around the world. We feel your love & messsge, Hot Rod.

Remembering our time at UMass, your 55 Chevy and Jimmy D's 40 Ford. We had such fun driving around Amherst and working on your 50 Ford. Taking apart the 57 Sedan Delivery and lifting the body off with the "boys" is such a great memory. There are so many more. I still remember those days while working in my garage. You are in my prayers old friend, always. John Dinand

Bobby was one of a kind! We shared lots of time on the water racing trimarans and more recently on asphalt sailing Blokarts which he loved and inspired him to move to Maine just last year. I'll miss his company and always interesting stories, and many of us will miss those bizarre tech topic emails of articles and videos we'd get in the deep of winter. He was ALWAYS thinking. RIP Bobby.

Bob was a close friend of mine during our years at Boston College High School and shortly after, before time and distance intervened. I was blessed to spend time with him at our 50th high school reunion. I remember him for his love of cars and enthusiasm for life. Wherever you are in the universe dear friend, never slow down.

The most interesting man in the world. The world is a lesser place without you Bobby. Hope the wind is favorable, the library full and the pedal to the floor. You will be missed! Michael Young
