Obituary for Robert "Bob" T. Durgin
Robert “Bob” T. Durgin, a longtime resident of Hingham, MA, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family on February 16, 2024, days shy of his 78th birthday.
Born in 1946, Bob was the son of the late Eugene J. Durgin and Dorothy (Donovan) Durgin of Milton, MA. Bob is survived by his wife, Midge (Sullivan) Durgin of Hingham and his five children: Julie (Durgin) Scheck and her husband Jay of Medfield, Kerry (Durgin) Johns and her husband Ian of Milton, Jennifer Durgin of South Boston, Patrick Durgin of Hingham, and Sara (Durgin) Riffel and her husband Mike of Marblehead. Bob is also survived by his siblings Eugene Durgin of Duxbury, Maria (Durgin) Capobianco of Mashpee, and Paul Durgin of Milton. Bob will also be remembered and forever cherished by his 7 grandchildren: Elizabeth, Anna, and Madeline Scheck, Lucy and Henry Johns, and Charlie and Emily Riffel, who fondly referred to him as “Bobo”.
Bob was born in Boston, MA and was a class of ‘67 graduate of Boston College. Enjoying career success at an early age, Bob joined Food Enterprises N.E. in 1974 and served as President of the company from 1982 – 1993, but the highlight of Bob’s latter days was sharing in the lives of his kids and grandkids. In his quiet yet steadfast way, with his sharp wit and uncanny sense of humor, Bob never missed the chance to celebrate a family birthday, anniversary, or follow the trials and tribulations of every Boston sports team. Bob’s most cherished traditions were enjoying a sunset on the beaches of Cape Cod and Christmas Eve at home with his family.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Saint Paul’s Church, 147 North Street, Hingham, Wednesday February 21 at 11:00 AM.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Norwell Visiting Nurses and Hospice Association (NVNA) at www.nvna.org or 120 Longwater Drive, Norwell, MA 02061.
