Obituary for Richard Serwetman

Richard Serwetman, 79, of Canton, Massachusetts, died at Newton-Wellesley Hospital on January 13, 2026 after a short illness.

He was born in New York City in 1946 to Tillie and Louis Serwetman. Richard attended Newtown High School in New York City before studying Electrical Engineering at Cooper Union and obtaining Master’s degree from Northeastern University in Boston, Massachusetts. Richard worked for most of his career as a Systems Engineer at Raytheon, where he contributed to the designs of surface to air missiles and air traffic control system displays, among other projects. Richard was awarded two patents for inventions during his career. He is survived by his wife, Christina, of Canton, Massachusetts, his brother, Aaron, of Webster, Texas, his son, William, his daughter in law, Lea, both of Milton, Massachusetts, and his three grandchildren Angelina, Cecelia, and Benjamin.

Richard was known for his friendly nature, his love of his family, his meticulous planning in all things, and his endless generosity. His favorite hobbies were square dancing, photography, and spending time with his grandchildren. He was active in the Fairs ‘N Squares Square Dancing Club and the Raytheon Retirees Association.
