Obituary for Piah-Sim Lee

Piah Sim Lee (李冰心), dearly loved by many, was called home to the loving embrace of the Lord on December 19, 2025, four months before her 95th birthday.

Piah Sim shared a special bond with her beloved husband, the late Koon Chow Lee, with whom she celebrated their 71st wedding anniversary on May 17, 2023. Best friends for eight years before they married, they cherished more than 79 years of companionship and devotion. After her husband’s homegoing on July 26, 2023, Piah Sim bravely carried on as a widow for another two years and five months.

Piah Sim leaves behind her children and their spouses: Doreen and Stephen, Maureen, and Reynolds and Jenny; her grandchildren and their spouses: Joel and Wendy, Nathan, Joy and Jonathan, Daniel, Lydia and Christopher, and Samuel; and her great-grandchildren, Naomi and Gale.

She was a devoted mother and grandmother who was there for her children and grandchildren through countless occasions, often ready to offer prayers, wise counsel, or something good to eat. Even as she grew much weaker, she delighted in gazing at and holding the hand of her great-granddaughter, Naomi. She was also filled with joy at the news of her great-grandson Gale’s recent birth, even though distance kept her from meeting him in person.

Piah Sim had a beautiful voice and blessed many through her singing and her captivating storytelling. She was a gifted, well-loved elementary school teacher in Singapore for over 25 years. In her thirties, she served as the leader of the women’s fellowship at Singapore Life Church. For many years, she and her husband also served faithfully there as elders and were cherished mentors to the young adult fellowship at the Chinese Congregation of Orchard Road Presbyterian Church, now renamed Providence Church.

Piah Sim had strong intuition and an eye for beauty. Wherever she and her husband lived—sometimes in different countries—she made each home tasteful and inviting, no matter how modest, so that people felt welcome there. She loved to cook and bake, and her family and friends were often blessed by her hospitality and delicious food. Whenever she stayed in the UK with her children while they were studying there, she became a motherly figure to many international students from Singapore and Malaysia.

Piah Sim had an endearing, irrepressible energy and a resilient spirit. In her late eighties—through major health setbacks, including congestive heart failure, a stroke, and broken ribs—she faced physical therapy with determination and a fighting spirit, sustained by faith and deep gratitude for God’s mercy. She recovered enough to make one last trip from the United States to Singapore with her beloved husband in 2018.

Piah Sim Lee will be deeply missed but forever remembered by those who knew and loved her.

When I first met Elder Lee Piah Sim at Singapore Life Church in 1969, she was a responsible and loving mother who brought her son to join our Sunday class in Primary 5. She ensured her son and all of us learned to respect God's word from a young age. I still remember her as a caring, gracious parent. As I grew older, my admiration for Elder Lee and her husband, Elder Lee Koon Chow, deepened. They were a living example of a loving Christian couple to me and my wife. We remember the gentle way they communicated with each other and how they held hands wherever they went — a simple but powerful expression of affection rare in those days. Their marriage was a testimony of love, respect, and faithfulness that continues to inspire all who knew them.

To Dearest Maureen With Love and heartfelt prayers.. Praying for peace of mind and heart As you walk this difficult mile with your family.

I want to thank God for my aunty , Lee Piah Sim, my mother's elder sister She is the one who brought my parents together as they were both teachers It was a marriage where my father loved the Love of his life and was devoted to my mum throughout his entire life My parents deeply respected my aunty In my growing up years , I often hear this word 大姐 by them They together with my parents organised picnic by the beach , etc I also remember my aunty as a woman of prayer and a tower of faith I can still hear her firm voice opening prayer with 大父上帝 She is also blessed with wisdom both in her words and actions I salute both my aunty and uncle for their fortitude In their senior years , they braved the long , long hours of flight to come to Singapore. Chinese New Year reunions was incomplete without them and we had celebrated many CNY with them and my parents Just as I miss my parents , will miss my aunty and uncle who had walked faithfully in their faith and be a shining testimony for the Lord

蜜恩, we truly miss your parents, Elder Lee(s). Seeing how they loved the Lord and followed Him faithfully throughout their lives was a beautiful and precious testimony. We thank God for blessing them with long and honored years on earth, allowing them to enjoy joyful times with their children and grandchildren. It was truly a wonderful gift. Though our hearts are deeply saddened, the gathering at 梅村 Restaurant has become a cherished and warm memory for all of us. 蜜恩, please stay strong and take heart,God be with you. We firmly believe that this is only a temporary parting in the Lord. Elder Lee(s)are now resting peacefully in His presence, waiting for the day when we will all be reunited again.
