On May 8, 2023 surrounded by her family, Norma peacefully departed this life at the Accent Care Hospice in Milton, MA.

Norma C. Andrews 91, was born September 15, 1931 in Boston, Massachusetts, to the late Constantine Foster and Irene (Woodson) Foster. She was married to the late Charles E. Andrews Sr. for 47 years, from their union came four children: Charles, Paul, Theresa and Stephen. Many admired their loving relationship and marriage. Norma grew up in the South End area of Boston and graduated from Roxbury Memorial High School in Roxbury, MA.

Norma worked at Manassa Inc, and Action for Boston Community Development (ABCD) over a period of 10 years as a Key Punch Operator performing data processing. Continuing her career with ABCD, she moved on to teach data processing at the ABCD Dorchester Training Center. Later, she taught Fundamentals to Computers at Opportunities Industrialization Center (OIC) in Roxbury, MA. She taught computer programming at the Computer Learning Center in Somerville, MA where she received her teaching certification. Norma loved teaching her students and was a strict teacher as she wanted her students to be prepared to go into the workforce. Norma made sure every student had employment when they completed her program and did her own employment placement. Her students adored her where she retired in 1993 from the Computer Learning Center.

Norma was the matriarch of our family and leaves a legacy as a true family-oriented woman. She valued her relationships with family and friends and her door was always open, and many came and stayed. If you stopped by at dinnertime you could always be guaranteed a meal because she always cooked extra food just in case. Norma had a great listening ear and would always offer suggestions to help with whatever situation you were dealing with. Although, she was certainly a “no-nonsense” person and meant every word she said, Norma had a soft side and caring heart that everyone loved.

Norma had a real passion for the many organizations she was a part of, including the “Four Corners Club” which spanned over 5 decades, where the group met and played Pokeno once a week. The Counterparts Bowling League, which she and her husband enjoyed and were members. “M.A.N. Inc.”, organized by (Millie, Audrey, Norma), sponsored trips to New York City’s theater district to see plays. Lastly, the “Just Us Girls Inc.” sponsored trips to casinos, flea markets, and shopping malls. Most importantly, they focused on giving back to the community through their many charitable donations and service.

Norma was a member of the Reggie Lewis Center where she joined the Sensational Seniors. There she participated in the exercise program and the “Take off Pounds Sensibly” (TOPS) program where she was the secretary. She was an avid reader and joined their book club as a member. She enjoyed reading a variety of books, but preferred novels above all.

She enjoyed traveling and loved trips to Las Vegas and going on cruises to the Caribbean Islands with her husband and friends. Norma was a member of Grace Church of All Nations, where she attended regularly until she became ill. She continued to listen to services on Zoom and enjoyed the choir’s singing.

Norma was a devoted wife, mother, auntie, grandmother, cousin, and friend. She will continue to be loved and adored by her family and friends and will be truly missed. She is preceded in death by her husband, the late Charles E. Andrews, Sr. and her son Charles E. Andrews, Jr., two sisters, Veta Mott and Shirley Coleman. She leaves to cherish memories, sister Jan Engerman, sons, Paul R. Andrews (Lana), Stephen R. Andrews (Nitanya), her beloved daughter Theresa L. Andrews (Kevin), grandchildren, April Simmons (Dwayne), Kevin Andrews (Lizanna), Takeyon Moon (Marilyn), Shelby Jones (Nigel), Bryant Andrews (Diane), Clay Andrews, Jamal Thomas, Joaquin Thomas, great-grandchildren: Devonte, Caley Amaya, Samia, Asanti, Brielle, Zaiah, Sia, Kiarra, Alex, great great-granddaughter Kenzi, and her devoted caretaker Velma Williams and a host family and friends.

Funeral Service, Saturday, May 20, 2023, in Grace Church of All Nations, 33 Elm Hill Ave, Dorchester, MA at 11 o’clock. Visiting Hour 10 – 11 am at the Church. Interment Mt. Hope Cemetery.
