Obituary for Murray F. Campbell
On Thursday March 13, 2025, Murray Campbell, of Chesterville, ME, passed away peacefully. He was 78 years old.
Those who knew Murray would agree that there was not a kinder or more generous soul on earth. He was passionate about many causes and gave 110% into everything that he did.
He had a long career as a tenured professor teaching Physics and Astronomy at Colby College and undoubtedly touched thousands of lives throughout his time on Mayflower Hill. For many years while teaching there he was a member of the “Rocking Chair” men’s hockey league and could also be frequently spotted going for a run around campus on his lunch break.
When he retired from teaching there was no question about his next steps, as he moved full time to his favorite place on earth, Parker Pond. He loved nothing more than being immersed in the quintessential Maine beauty that surrounded him there everyday. He divided his time equally between all of Maine’s seasons; hiking, skiing, kayaking or sailing one of his two sailboats on the pond. He was embraced and supported by so many amazing people and communities during his time living at ‘camp’.
Murray joins in heaven, his parents, Murray and T. Virgina Campbell as well as his beloved wife Linda Campbell (Terapane) and many dogs and cats he loved so dearly. He is survived by his brother, Marion Campbell and his wife Evangeline, as well their three children, John, Paul and Bill Campbell, and their families. Murray also leaves behind two daughters, who he devoted his life to supporting and loving: Irene Campbell and Rita MacKinnon (Campbell) and her Husband, Timothy MacKinnon. Murray was also known as Grandpa Bunny, to three grandkids that absolutely adored him: Parker, Kensington and Cooper MacKinnon.
Murray loved and was loved by so many and was a gift to all that knew him. In lieu of flowers, Murray would have wanted nothing more than to support the fight against cancer that has impacted our family, and so many of our loved ones, through the American Cancer Society.
