Obituary for Melviena Mesada Phillips
God blessed us on February 8, 1928, with Melviena Mesada Phillips who was born in Camaguey Cuba to her parents Charles Phillips and Agnes Roberts. She was the fifth out of 8 siblings. She received her education in Havana Cuba, where she attended both Spanish and English Schools. Melviena also was a member of several social clubs while in Cuba. In February of 1956 she met the charming Charles Ford and in September of 1958 they married and had four wonderful boys.
In January of 1969 the family migrated to the United States and settled in New York City. Charles and Melviena felt New York was not accommodating to raise their four boys, so in February 1972 they purchased a home in Massachusetts and settled in Mattapan. In addition to Melviena raising four boys while Charles worked odd jobs, Melviena worked as a Factory worker, House Cleaner and a Child Care Worker. She had a passion working w/ kids and became a School Bus monitor for the Boston Public School System, and after working for several years she retired in September of 1982.
During her retirement Melviena enjoyed traveling w/ her older sister Exeme Philips to places that included her homeland Cuba, Puerto Rico, several islands in the West Indies, Florida, El Salvador as well as going on several cruises. Melviena also loved cooking and taking care of her grandchildren, who visited often, and she loved to take pictures. She also had a passion for sports. One major sport she enjoyed was Wrestling; she looked forward to Friday nights where she was glued to the television watching World Wrestling Federation (WWF). Hulk Hogan was her favorite character.
On September 24, 2022, our beloved Melviena Ford passed to the Glory Land in heaven. Melviena is predeceased by Exeme, Wilfred James, Geraldine, Gertrude and Alfonso Phillips. She survived by her two sisters, Christina Phillips and Gracella Springer (Phillips), her four children Carlos Leonardo, Daniel, Reinaldo and Rafeal Ford, daughter-in laws Darlene Pezanetti and Donna Green-Ford, grandchildren Cheryl, Mike, James, Reionna, Chloe, and Reidon Ford, great grandchildren, Jazabelle, Isabella, Leo James Ford and Bailey Cyr. Melviena also leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and her Church family. May She Rest in Peace
