  I'm so sorry to just be hearing about Matt's passing. I have many childhood memories of Matt, Mike, and other Shaub siblings playing with Jimmy, as well as babysitting in your home a few times.   I will always treasure the fun times with Matt at the Capitol Lounge. First time I met him, he was bartending and had a pool going over who could identify a movie based on an obscure, Shazam-proof song. I liked him immediately. We also bonded over our shared interest in the Red Sox, including their three titles in our lifetimes and a team picture of the strong 1975 squad I once shared with him. Lots of fun to be around.   I feel so lucky to have known Schaub. Maybe you were fortunate enough to have worked together in past races, at the DCCC, American Bridge, or on the OFA 2012 re-elect presidential campaign. For me, Matt and I worked together across 4 different campaigns from 2010 through 2020. He was one of the first familiar faces I saw walking into OFA HQ in Chicago back in 2011. That was such special time for all of us. It brought together the best of the best and we were a part of it. Getting to work along side him cycle after cycle, I saw his fight and his passion for a future we believe in. Maybe you found him in the off-cycle bartending at Cap Lounge, perhaps catching up on the latest or just getting to know Schaub - no politics involved. He genuinely made friends across so many groups with so many interests. As we got older, we shifted from texting silly gifs or the latest headlines and instead would send each other updates and cute videos of our niblings - he took such joy in being Uncle Matt. That Jason and I got to call him a friend, see him behind a laptop at work and out of the office popping up at so many local DC spots, and getting to know different circles of friends has been an honor. Sending our condolences to all his family, friends, and loved ones. Miss you.

  I had the great joy of working with Matt at the DGA. His passion, thoughtfulness, and deep knowledge made him one of the most memorable colleagues I have ever had the privilege of working alongside. More importantly, I remember Matt as an exceptional human being. He was someone with whom you could strike up a meaningful and interesting conversation about almost anything. We bonded over NBA basketball and our shared belief that we could help make our country and our world a better place. Matt did exactly that, not only through his work, but through the kindness, curiosity, humor, and friendship he extended to so many people. The countless sincere friendships he leaves behind are a testament to the life he lived and the person he was. To the Schaub family, thank you for raising such a remarkable man and for sharing him with all of us. The compassion, integrity, and deeply human values you instilled in him were evident in everything he did. Though his time with us was far too short, Matt lived a life of meaning and purpose that many can only aspire to. I will always be incredibly proud to have worked beside Matt and even prouder to have called him my friend. I will miss you so much, brother.

  Matt was the best of us. It is true. We openly admit it. I am blessed to have remained friends with him through the changes in life, especially the distance life puts between us. From high school to this past Christmas, he made every effort to close that distance every chance he could. He loved people. From "Surviving Woodstock 99," the long weekends in Montreal, attending Sox games on both coasts, Team USA matches, working political campaigns that actually make an impact, often simultaneously enduring every clinical trial known to science. He was a human dynamo. Matt was the best of us. I can only hope I gave him half as many quality moments as he gave me. Rest in Peace, my friend. Chadbourne

  I grew up with Matt after I moved to Milton in 4th grade - we went to elementary school, middle school, and high school together. We ran cross country and track together, were Kairos leaders together, and were even roommates on the retreat. I'm hard pressed to think of someone who was more innately selfless and community minded. The epitome of a "man for others" that BC High uses as its mantra. Such a tragic, massive loss. My heart is with the Schaub family and all his friends and loved ones, of which I know there are many. My deepest condolences. Patrick English

Through politics and Boston pride, He stood with passion as our guide. I wouldn't cheer the Red Sox quite the same, If not for you and your love of the game. A brother true, a roommate dear, Whose laughter echoed year by year. You never quit, you never strayed, You led by how your life was made. Thank you for always being there, For showing strength through love and care. You inspired all who knew your way, By leading through each passing day.   One memory I'll always have of Matt was during the 2004 ALCS. We were sitting in the cafeteria when the Red Sox were down 3–0 to the Yankees, and neither of us would give up hope. I remember saying, "Wouldn't it be the ultimate if they actually came back?" Matt looked at me and basically said, "I'd be okay in life if that happened." Then we got to live through the next four games together. Looking back, those were some of the most memorable days of college, and I'll always remember looking over at Matt and seeing how much it meant to him. It somehow made the whole thing even more special. To this day, every time I watch a Red Sox game, I can't help but think of Matt. Take care brother, Stephen DiCenzo
