Obituary for Mary L Smith

Mary Linda Smith, fondly called Lynn by many, age 75 of Boston Massachusetts, passed away on March 2nd, 2023. Lynn was born on June 16, 1947 to Bessie Elizabeth (King) and Allie Richard Smith in Greenville, South Carolina. The youngest of six siblings, Lynn fondly recalled her childhood raising baby chicks and riding pigs on the family farm. Lynn graduated from Lincoln High School in 1965, and worked as a seamstress after training at Greenville Tech. She gave birth to her daughter, Adrienne Lynette, in 1969. Lynn and Adrienne relocated to Boston, Mass. in the 1970s. Lynn most enjoyed spending her time with family and friends, traveling on cruises organized by sister Earnestine, or going back down to South Carolina to visit sister Corrine. She could often be found having hours long phone conversations with her siblings and high school classmates. Lynn was a yearly winter volunteer with the Salvation Army, as well as bringing and receiving joy from every dog she met. Remembered for having an honest delivery and a witty sense of humor, Lynn could always be counted on for a good joke and laughter at family gatherings. She was always there to provide the advice you needed most - even when you didn't know you needed it - and to jump in and help her loved ones. A dedicated Aunt, Lynn supported in caring for, loving on and encouraging countless nieces and nephews within the family. Lynn was predeceased by mother Bessie, father Allie, sister Hattie Durant, and brothers Richard Wilson, and John Perry (JP). Lynn is survived by her daughter, Adrienne (Edward) Deveney and her sisters, Earnestine “Tina” Durant, of Boston, Massachusetts, and Corrine Todd of Woodruff, South Carolina. She also leaves behind her grandchildren, Cheyenne (Akinori) Watanave and Christian Deveney, and many beloved nieces and nephews. Visiting Hours Saturday, March 11, 2023, in the Dolan Funeral Home, 1140 Washington Street, DORCHESTER LOWER MILLS, 4-6pm. Funeral Service 6 pm. Interment Private. She will be greatly missed by all who loved her. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Salvation Army, an organization Lynn felt strongly about.
