Obituary for Mary Jean (McAndrew) Roy

Mary Jean (McAndrew) Roy of Milton, a retired nurse educator passed peacefully at home on June 17, 2026.

Born in Boston, MA raised in St. Margaret’s Parish, she graduated from Monsignor Ryan Memorial High School and attended Boston City Hospital School of Nursing. Ms. Roy received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Boston College; a master’s in nursing from Boston University and a master’s in education from Bridgewater State University.

Ms. Roy worked as a nurse educator at Boston City Hospital School of Nursing. She then transitioned into administration at the hospital serving as Director of Nursing. She also taught at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital School of Nursing, Brockton Hospital School of Nursing and finished her career at Bunker Hill Community College School of Nursing. Ms. Roy also taught at Regis College and was a Board Member of the MA/RI League of Nursing. She also sat on the Massachusetts Board of Registration for Nursing under Mitt Romney and Deval Patrick. Her dedication to the nursing profession and her students was immeasurable.

Predeceased by her loving husband, Joseph MA Roy, loving mother of Thomas F. and his wife Michele A. of Braintree, Michele E. Roy of Milton, Linda J. and her husband Kevin Cooper of Milton and her beloved fur baby Cosmo Francis. Loving Grandmother of Brianna P. Roy of Dorchester, Matthew J. Roy of Braintree, Timothy L., Katherine B. and Lauren J. Cooper all of Milton. She is predeceased by her brothers, James and Joseph McAndrew.

Jean enjoyed spending summers at Pinehurst Beach where she was a long-time member of the Pinehurst Beach Improvement Association. She enjoyed boating with her husband and relaxing at the beach with family and friends. Never one to skip a good meal, she cherished her weekend breakfast dates with her grandson Tim and Sunday prime rib dinners with her family. She enjoyed playing bingo, her trips to Foxwoods to play the slots and traveling to warm weather destinations.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in St. Agatha Church, 432 Adams Street, Milton on Monday, June 22, 2026, at 10:30am. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Visiting Hour at Dolan Funeral Home, 460 Granite Ave. EAST MILTON SQUARE from 9-10am prior to the mass. Interment at Cedar Grove Cemetery in Dorchester.

    I graduated the last class from BCH in 1975. I fondly remember Mary Roy RN as a professional, nurturing and compassionate nurse. She was a wonderful instructor who taught students to question and to embrace learning. RIP
