Mary (Dunn) Doherty, 98 of Milton, MA and a native of Pascoag, RI passed away surrounded by family on August 11, 2022.

She was married to the late James J. Doherty. She is survived by Kathy and her husband Henry Russell of Braintree, Paul of Colorado Springs, Jacquie of Holbrook, Eileen McGonagle of Marshfield, Deirdre of Western MA, George and his wife Mary of Weymouth and Sheila of Westminster, MD.

Predeceased by her sons, Brendan, Kevin, and William. Mary was recognized as a Gold Star Mother and was a cherished mother, grandmother of 26, great-grandmother of 44 and great-great grandmother of 1.

Mary was one of six siblings including Trudy, Thelma, Joyce, Evie, and George. She attended R. I. Teachers College and after having six children finished her bachelor’s degree at Boston University in 1954, an unusual accomplishment for women during that time. After having 10 children she received her master’s degree from Boston State College in 1967. She used her children to practice her math educational methods. As a teacher she taught science and math in Dorchester, Hanover, and Medfield. In her retirement she tutored English as a second language in Florida.

Mary was also President of the United Methodist Women (UMW) at the Parkway Church. Additionally, she was also a member of the District Executive Committee of the UMW where she initiated the Reading Program that is still active today. Mary was a member of the Lambda group at the Parkway Church where she met her closest friends and volunteered at the Milton Food Pantry for many years.

Visiting hours will be held at the Dolan Funeral Home, 460 Granite Ave. EAST MILTON SQUARE, Sunday August 14th from 1-5 PM. Funeral Service to be held at Parkway United Methodist Church, 158 Blue Hills Parkway, Milton, MA on Monday August 15th at 11AM. Interment at Milton Cemetery.
