Obituary for Martin John "Chick" DeMatteo

Martin John “Chick” DeMatteo, Friday January 9, 2026. Beloved husband of Judith (Pagliarulo).

Born in Roslindale in 1935 to Anna (Capone) and John DeMatteo, he was educated at St. Sebastian’s School and Northeastern University. Mr. DeMatteo worked at the family business M. DeMatteo Construction Co. since he was a teenager and was Chairman & President from 1992, leading completion of projects at Logan Airport, S.E. Expressway, Rte. 128, Interstate 95 and the Mass. Turnpike.

Most important in his life as their “Pop” were his 18 grandchildren and “Great Pop” to his two great grandsons George and James DeMatteo, aside from his Catholic faith. He was a devoted parishioner of Saint Agatha Church.

Father of John, his wife Kristine and Pop of Andrew, Peter, Gregory and his wife Christina, Henry, Isabella, Charles and Luisa; Father of the late Martin Jr, his surviving wife Christine and Pop of Olivia, Thomas, Stephen and Michael; Father of Karen and her husband Shaun Kunisaki MD and Pop of Sophia, William, Maxwell, Henry, Elizabeth, Lucas and Natalia.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in Saint Agatha Church, 432 Adams Street, Milton, Tuesday January 20 at 10:30 am. Visiting hours at Dolan Funeral Home, 460 Granite Avenue, EAST MILTON SQUARE, Monday 4-8 PM. Interment Milton Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Mr. DeMatteo's memory may be made to St. Benedict Classical Academy, 89 Union Street, Natick, MA 01760 or Neurology Giving (Krauss/Crone Epilepsy & EpiWatch Research Fund Only), Johns Hopkins Medicine, 550 N. Broadway, Suite 731, Baltimore, MD 21205.

    I had the privelage of working for him 30 years ago and he was a first class leader it was one of the best companies I ever worked for and no one threw a Christmas party or Company picnic like Chick. He was very kind to me and had a heart of Gold.

    So sorry to read about Mr. DeMatteo's death. Reading his obit, I was reminded of all my DeMatteo connections, starting with Karen as an elementary student and stretching to many of his wonderful grandchildren. So sorry for your loss.
