Obituary for Marie Lourdes Damis

Marie Lourdes Damis was born on December 8, 1935, in Miragoâne, Haiti, to Georgette Rinchère and Hérard Damis. She passed away peacefully on January 9, 2026, after a long illness, surrounded by love and the enduring prayers of family and friends.

Marie received her early education in Miragoâne, Haiti, including her elementary schooling, where she attended Fille de la Sagesse. From a young age, she was shaped by values of faith, service, resilience, and quiet strength—principles that guided her throughout her life.

Born and raised in Haiti, Marie later emigrated to the United States, where she made her home for many years. She lived in New York, Boston, and most recently Brockton, Massachusetts. In her adopted country, Marie built a life rooted in hard work, service, and devotion to others. She spent many years employed as a nursing aide in Boston, a role that reflected her deep compassion and commitment to caring for those in need.

Marie was a woman of strong faith and was actively involved in her church community. She supported numerous church activities and outreach programs, always willing to give of her time, presence, and resources to help others. Her faith was not only professed but lived—quietly, consistently, and generously.

In her younger years, Marie enjoyed traveling with family, cherishing the memories created during those times. Throughout her life, she most looked forward to spending meaningful time with family and friends. She valued relationships deeply and maintained strong ties with loved ones near and far. Marie lived her life on her own terms, with dignity, independence, and a clear sense of who she was.

She leaves behind her devoted son, Neil Duplessy of Brockton, Massachusetts, who cared for her with unwavering love and dedication. She is also survived by her sister, Marlene Damis Desmolieres, of Stamford, Connecticut, as well as her brothers and sisters, nephews and nieces, cousins, and many extended family members and friends.

Marie is lovingly remembered by the Damis, Desmolières, Thomas, Sterling, André, Jeanty, and extended families, along with a wide circle of friends whose lives she touched through her kindness, faith, and service.

In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests that donations be made in Marie’s memory to Old Colony Elder Services of Brockton, in recognition of the care and support provided to elders and families in the community.

Marie Lourdes Damis will be remembered for her quiet strength, compassionate heart, faithful service, and enduring love for her family. Her legacy lives on in the lives she touched and the values she modeled so faithfully.
