It is with deepest sadness that we inform you of the passing of Maria Josefa Mosquera (Tarrio Redondo) on July 27, 2026 after a prolonged battle with Frontaltemporal Dementia (FTD).

Maria, also known by many as “Marucha”, is remembered by her husband Joaquin Mosquera Otero. Her daughter and her husband Maria Margarita and Michael Duffy with their sons Sean and Mark (Taylor). Her son and his wife Joaquin and Laura Mosquera and their children, Jonathan (Veronica), Zachary and Rebecca. Her brother Jose Manuel Tarrio and her sister Ana Maria Rial.

She was born in the small town of Taragoña (A Coruña), Spain and passed away surrounded by family in Quincy, Massachusetts.

During her life she worked as a seamstress, a nurse assistant, a weaver, a cleaning lady and machine operator. Many times working multiple jobs at the same time to support her family. But she always worked hardest as a wife and mother.

She was loved and dearly remembered by everyone she met. She especially loved the kids she met throughout her life, always going out of her way to get them a toy or new clothes, they always brought a smile to her face.

She was also involved in the New England Spanish Cultural Institute as a board member for many years and served as the president for a time. She loved the music, food, dancing and interaction with club members, many of which became dear friends. We remember many days and nights of her cooking Spanish dishes for an upcoming event.

She loved hosting family and friends at the house where she cooked special traditional Spanish foods for everyone to enjoy with large paellas and tortilla española. She also loved gardening and flowers, spending a lot of time making her garden and back yard look beautiful.

As a family we remember trips to Spain, which were never really a vacation, as much as it was a chance to visit all of our family and friends. Driving to Taragoña, Coruña, Santiago, Rianxo, Boiro and other towns.

We remember her staying up and cooking for us, decorating the house for holidays and always working extremely hard for her loved ones.

We love her very much and will always remember and miss her. She is in our hearts and will always be a part of us.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in Divine Mercy Parish, Saint Mary Church, 115 Crescent Street, Quincy, Tuesday August 4 at 10:30 am. Relatives and friends invited. Visiting hours at Dolan Funeral Home, 460 Granite Avenue, EAST MILTON SQUARE, Monday August 3 from 4-7 PM.
