Obituary for Maria A. Rodrigues
Maria Ascencao (Centeio) Rodrigues, better known as Dina, of Boston (Dorchester), Massachusetts passed away peacefully on July 16, 2025. Dina was born on May 18, 1929 and as was custom at that time, registered on October 14, 1929, in Atalaia, Fogo, Cabo Verde.
She was predeceased in death by her beloved husband, Hugo Pina Rodrigues, her parents, Avelino and Catarina Centeio and her beloved daughter, Catarina (Rodrigues) DePina.
Dina was a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother whose greatest joy came from cooking for and spending time with her huge family and friends.
In 1957 at 27 yrs. old, Dina immigrated to America with her two small daughters (4 yrs old and 9 mos old) via ship to Lisbon, Portugal where, after a short stay, she proceeded on via plane to Boston, Massachusetts, to be with her husband. They both worked hard and achieved their dream of owning their own home. They added to their family of 4 with the birth of their son in 1965. They were further blessed with 3 grandsons and 1 granddaughter. Dina was also godmother to many of her nieces, nephews and children of cousins and friends.
Dina will be remembered for her kind and generous heart. No one who entered her home was allowed to leave without enjoying her wonderful home-cooked meals.
Dina is survived by her children: Maria L. DeAndrade and her husband, Carlos of Bristol, Rhode Island, Hugo John Rodrigues (who never left her side and was her main caregiver in her later years) of Dorchester, MA; her grandchildren: Michael DePina and fiancΓ©, Adelia Ramos and their children, Andre, Marcus and Catarina of Pawtucket, Rhode Island, Carlos DeAndrade Jr., and his wife Kristina and son Lorenzo of Mansfield, Massachusetts; Daniel DeAndrade of Sharon, Massachusetts and Alyssa DeAndrade of Washington, DC. She is also survived by loving nieces, nephews, cousins and numerous long-time friends.
Visitation will be held at the Dolan Funeral Home, 1140 Washington Street, DORCHESTER LOWER MILLS on Monday, July 21st from 9-11AM. Funeral Service to begin at 11AM. Interment at Cedar Grove Cemetery. Relatives and friends invited.
