Obituary for Margaret M. (Fitzgibbons) King
Margaret M. (Fitzgibbons) King of Dorchester died on December 7, 2021. Peggy was born in Brooklyn, New York, living her early childhood there with her parents, Joe and Peg Fitzgibbons, and her older brother, Jack.
While still a child, the family relocated to Boston, and settled in West Roxbury. She attended school in Boston, and graduated from Saint Thomas Aquinas high school in Jamaica Plain.
Peg began a career as a secretary, working for an executive at a firm in Boston. She continued this until she married. When her youngest child reached teen years, she returned to secretarial work at Laboure Nursing School, at the Carney Hospital in Dorchester.
Peg always had a great love of the ocean and going to the beach. It was while spending some time with friends on Cape Cod, she met the love of her life, Jody King, a World War Two veteran from South Boston.
Peg and Jody married in 1954 and began their life together in a small apartment near Pleasure Bay in Southie. Peggy continued to enjoy being near the water, and she always cherished long walks around Castle Island, even well after they left the neighborhood. She truly enjoyed life’s simple pleasures – an outdoor lunch of a hot dog at “Sully’s” with a loved one was enjoyed as much as a gourmet meal.
When a second child was on the way, Peg and Jody bought a house in the Lower Mills section of Dorchester. She was a regular communicant at Saint Gregory’s church. A devout Catholic, her faith remained an important influence throughout her life. All of her children attended St Gregory’s school, and she took great pride in seeing them receive the sacraments – from baptism to marriage – at the parish church.
She always maintained her love for the seashore and throughout her life enjoyed day trips as well as summer vacations with family to the beach in Marshfield, where they were usually joined by many nieces and nephews.
Her greatest love and source of joy was always her family. She truly devoted her life to her husband Jody and her children. She derived great pride and happiness in raising her children and being able to watch her grandchildren grow up as well. Her deep faith in God and her love for her family remained strong through her final days.
Peggy was the beloved wife of the late Patrick J. King. Devoted mother of Peggy Tomasini and her husband Raymond of Dorchester, Matthew F. King and his wife Robin of West Roxbury, Patrick J. King, Jr., of Quincy and Joseph F. King (Ret. M.S.P.) and his wife Jamie of Canton. Grandmother of Annemarie Tomasini, Joseph Tomasini and his wife Renee, Matthew D. King, Joseph P. King, Joseph L. King and Patrick J. King. Sister of the late Jack Fitzgibbons.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in St. Gregory’s Church, Dorchester, Tuesday, December 14, 2021 at 10 o’clock. Visiting Hours, Monday, December 13, 2021 in the Dolan Funeral Home, 1140 Washington Street, DORCHESTER LOWER MILLS 4 – 7 pm. Interment St. Joseph Cemetery, West Roxbury.
