Obituary for Margaret F. (Ward) Sullivan
Margaret F. (Ward) Sullivan, 86 of Quincy and formerly of Dorchester, passed away peacefully on January 29, 2022.
Margie was born in Boston’s Mission Hill area before moving to raise her family in Dorchester. She was a 35 year employee of the Carney Hospital where she made many lifelong friends. They enjoyed many dinners out, traveling to Ireland and celebrating special occasions of each other’s lives together. One of those special occasions was when Margie was to become a first time grandmother, they threw her a “grandmother’s baby shower.
She took several trips with her daughter Donna and sister Ginny to Bar Harbor Maine and Cape Cod, where she enjoyed touring light houses and other attractions or just relaxing reading a good book.
Margie enjoyed attending many productions at various local theaters and at the South Shore Music Circus. She especially loved the holidays where she could spend time playing games with her siblings, nieces, nephews and grandchildren when they got old enough. Scat was a favorite regular card game played.
What she cherished most was the time she spent with her family. She was always there to listen and help when needed with encouragement or advice.
When at home, you would often find her in front of the TV either watching various games shows or ordering from QVC.
She favored nautical and lighthouse decorations and had an affinity for Angel statues or pins.
Margie lived a generous and meaningful life and will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Donald F. Sullivan. Loving mother of Donald Sullivan, Jr. and his wife Kim of Rockland, Donna Sullivan of Quincy, and the late Diane Dodd. Cherished grandmother of Jillian, Christopher, Joshua, Jayson, Jonathan and Stefanie and great grandmother (Grammy) of Victoria, Savannah, Vincent, Jaxson, and Jenna. Margie is also survived by her brother Michael “Skipper” Ward of W. Roxbury and was pre-deceased by her siblings Mary, Arthur, Dorothy, Virginia, and Francis.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Basilica of Our Lady of Perpetual Help, 1545 Tremont Street, Boston, Friday February 4 at 10:00 AM. Family and friends invited. Visiting hours at Dolan Funeral Home, 1140 Washington Street, DORCHESTER LOWER MILLS, Thursday February 3 from 4-8 PM. Burial Mount Benedict Cemetery.
