In Loving Memory of Manuel Avelino DeBurgo.
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved father, Manuel (Manel) Avelino DeBurgo who left this world on July 20, 2025 at the age of 88. He departed peacefully surrounded by family, leaving behind a legacy of love, strength, and kindness that will never be forgotten.
Born on December 10, 1936 in Brava, Cabo Verde. Manel was the son of the late Artur DeBurgo and Francisca Avelino DeBurgo. He is survived by his siblings Leopoldina DaRosa, Carolina DaRosa, Francisca Andrade, and Pedro DeBurgo. Manel is also preceded in death by his siblings Maria (Bibica) DeBurgo Santos, Valentina DaRosa, Antonio DeBurgo, and Jose (Jack) DeBurgo. A devoted husband, a cherished father, a loyal friend, and a cherished member of his community. Manel immigrated to Dakar, Senegal in 1960 where he dedicated his professional life to painting. He was admired not only for his hard work but also for his compassion, generosity, and willingness to help all in need. He then migrated to the United States with his family in 1980.
Above all, Manel was a family man. He found his greatest joy in spending time with his children and grandchildren, sharing stories, laughter, and unconditional love. His wisdom, patience, and gentle spirit shaped the lives of those who were lucky enough to know him.
He is survived by his wife Julia DeBurgo of sixty seven years. His children Jorge DeBurgo, Antonio DeBurgo, Christine DaRosa, Francisca Camilo, and Jean (Jeannot) DeBurgo. His grandchildren, known to them as Papi: Christopher DaRosa, Christian DeBurgo, Louisa Lopez, Yannick DeBurgo, Sarah Camilo, Jessica DaRosa, Kyle DeBurgo, Lucas Camilo, Zachary Camilo, DeMitri DeBurgo, and Jeanique DeBurgo. His great grandchildren Ezabella Lopez, Elias Lopez, Jason Valdez, Ezaiah Rodriguez, and Evelise Rodriguez who will carry forward his memory with pride and love.
Pa will be forever in our hearts, we will miss him dearly.
Visiting hours on Friday July 25th 4-8PM in the Dolan Funeral Home, 1140 Washington Street, Dorchester Lower Mills. All who knew and loved him are welcome to attend and share in honoring a truly remarkable man.
Mass of Christian Burial will be on Saturday July 26th at 10AM in St. Patrick Church, 400 Dudley Street, Roxbury.
Interment in New Calvary Cemetery, Boston
