Obituary for Louisa Modest

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Louisa Modest, who departed this life on April 8, 2026, in Boston, Massachussetts. She was born on March 12, 1937, in Marigot, Dominica.
Louisa was a devoted mother and is lovingly remembered by her children: Merina McKenzie, Daisy Joseph, Davis Joseph, Desmond Patrice, and Desiree Patrice. She was also a cherished grandmother to Miguel McKenzie, Manthon Baker, Vinesha Baker, Lauren Patrice, Danielle Patrice, Benjamin Davis Joseph, Melia Joseph, and Delani Joseph.

Born and raised in Marigot, Dominica, Louisa was widely known for her gift of cooking and her deep love for the Lord. She dedicated many years to serving her community by operating school canteens, where she provided nourishing meals and brought joy to countless students across Dominica. As a talented caterer, she touched many lives through her generosity and passion for food.

Louisa was predeceased by her parents, Christiana Jacobs and Majorick Modest, as well as her siblings, Cora Silcott, Dorothy Sylvester, Margaret and Hobbs Modest. She also leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends across Dominica and around the world who will forever cherish her memory.

A wake will be held April 21, 2026 at Dolan Funeral Home at 1140 Washington Street, Dorchester from 6 to 8 p.m. Homegoing services to celebrate Louisa’s life will be held at 10 a.m. on April 22, 2026 at Union United Methodist Church (485 Columbus Avenue, Boston).
