Obituary for Louis Jarlath Higgins
Louis Jarlath Higgins, 74, of Dorchester, Quincy and County Galway, Ireland, passed away peacefully on July 14, 2022, at John Scott Rehabilitation Center in Braintree.
Born in Claretuam, Co. Galway on August 11, 1947, educated in Ireland, and moved to the U.S. in 1969. Louis settled in Milton and Quincy, until his marriage to Janet Lilly-Higgins in 1997, when he moved to Adams Village, section of Dorchester.
Louis was a union painter for many years. He was an avid sports fan of Irish football and soccer and was involved with the Irish Cultural Center in Canton. He also loved Boston sports, including the Red Sox, Patriots, Bruins and Revolution. Louis enjoyed playing Keno and the lottery with his buddies in Adams Village.
Beloved husband of Janet (Lilly) of Dorchester. Louis is survived by his brothers, Martin and wife the late Kay Higgins of Milton, John and wife Margaret and Eugene and wife Mary of Galway, Ireland, Gabriel and Patrick and wife Ann of England, the late Joseph and wife the late Peggy Higgins of Milton, and sisters, Sally and husband James Cormican of Milton, Una and husband Frank McGrath of Galway, Mary Dolan and her late husband Frank of Galway and Margaret and husband Peter King of England. Louis is also survived by many nieces and nephews in Boston, Ireland, and England. Louis also leaves his beloved pet “Claddagh Higgins” who brought him much joy.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Saint Brendan Church, 589 Gallivan Boulevard, Dorchester, Monday July 25th at 10:00 AM. Family and friends invited. Visiting hours at Dolan Funeral Home, 460 Granite Avenue, EAST MILTON SQUARE, Sunday July 24th from 4-8 PM. Burial Cedar Grove Cemetery.
