Obituary for Leonard G. Frank
Leonard G. Frank, sometimes known as Lenny, but lovingly known simply as Nick, was a vibrant soul born in St. Vincent to Joyce Spencer and Christian Nanton on February 21, 1949. Though St. Vincent was his birthplace, it was Trinidad that raised him—and Trinidad that lived in his blood.
From an early age, Nick was a spirited and rebellious young man, known for his tough nature and his readiness to scrap. Yet, under that bold exterior was a boy who deeply absorbed the values his mother, Joyce, instilled in him. She taught him to be self-sufficient, to hold his own—and most famously, how to cook with love. If you ever tasted his food, you knew the skill came straight from her. Nick even inherited her signature patch of gray hair in the front—a family trait and a recognizable trademark.
In the 1970s, Nick made his way to the United States, settling in Boston, MA, where he built a life through hard work and determination. A skilled welder, he lent his craftsmanship to numerous construction projects over the years. Not one to be boxed in, Nick was also a licensed barber—his hands were as sharp with clippers as they were with tools. People from all around came for his cuts, his stories, and his vibe.
Charismatic to the core, Nick had a smile that could light up a room, a presence that commanded attention, and swag that never quit. He dressed impeccably, always smelling good and stepping out with confidence. You didn’t just see Nick—you felt him.
One of his greatest passions was music. He played steel pan with Branches and Silver Stars, and nothing brought him more joy than the rhythm of the drums, the sway of a good dance, and the sounds of jazz filling the air. Just as strong was his love of entertaining—Nick was in his element when hosting gatherings at home, cooking up a storm, sharing laughs, and liming with friends and family. His home was always filled with music, food, and the unmistakable energy of someone who knew how to bring people together.
Nick is survived by his beloved life partner, Marilyn Wilson-Joseph; his daughter Tiesha "Toots", son-in-law Damien, and grandchildren Damien Jr., Naya, Merritt, and Emersyn; his son Khari, and grandchildren Khamari and Kaila of Boston, MA; and his son Neil of Brooklyn, NY. He is also survived by his brothers Clayton and Ceylon Nanton of Brooklyn, NY; his sisters Sonia Nanton of St. Vincent, Wilma Nanton of Queens, NY, and Greta Nanton of Brooklyn, NY.
Preceding Nick in passing are his beloved parents, Joyce Spencer and Christian Nanton, and his sister Ereta Nanton of St. Vincent.
Nick leaves behind a legacy of strength, joy, and unmistakable style. He will be dearly missed by a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family, and countless friends who were blessed to know him.
Rest in Power, Nick.
You were one of a kind—and you will never be forgotten.
