Obituary for Leo J. DelVecchio

Leo J. DelVecchio, age 86, a lifelong resident of Quincy, died peacefully, Saturday, September 14, 2024 surrounded by his loving family.

Leo was born in Quincy, to the late Louis and Anna (DiCroce) DelVecchio. He was a graduate of Quincy High Trade School, Class of 1956. After graduating second in his class, Leo earned his certificates in advanced plumbing and mechanical drafting from the Franklin Institute of Technology.

He was proud to have served as a Sergeant in the United States Army Reserve during the 1960s.

Leo began his career as a journeyman and master plumber for Barile Plumbing of Braintree, spending nearly thirty years with the company. Following this, he was employed as a project manager with Commonwealth Plumbing of Weymouth for eight years. He went on to work for Norfolk Mechanical of Weymouth as an estimator for eight years, before retiring from Maguire Plumbing of Newton as an estimator and consultant. He was an associate of the American Society of Plumbing Engineers for over twenty years.

He was a lifelong, active parishioner of Saint John the Baptist Church in Quincy, where he volunteered for the Food Pantry. Along with his wife, Marilyn, Leo ran the South Shore Bank golf league at the Rockland Golf Course for many years. Leo also enjoyed crafts and puzzles, was an avid reader, and enjoyed gardening and working on his home. Leo enjoyed many trips to Disney World with his family.

He was devoted to his family and especially enjoyed supporting the activities and accomplishments of his daughters and grandsons. Leo was known for always using his many talents to help out family and friends.

Beloved husband for sixty-three years of Marilyn A. (DeAngelo) DelVecchio. Devoted father of Leanne Arthur and her husband Paul of Marshfield, Michele Bickford and her husband Fred of Norwell. Loving grandfather of Michael Arthur and his wife Ashleigh, Daniel Arthur and his fiancé Annie Porter, Benjamin Bickford, and Christopher Bickford. He was the great grandfather of Rhys Arthur.

Leo was the dear brother of Alfred G. DelVecchio and his wife Thomasine of Quincy, and brother-in-law of Bitsy DelVecchio of Quincy. He was predeceased by his sister, Josephine Puglisi, and brothers, Mario M. DelVecchio and Vincent J. DelVecchio. Leo is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and dear friends.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in Saint John the Baptist Church, 44 School Street, Quincy, Saturday, September 21, at 10:00 am. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Visiting hours at Dolan Funeral Home, 460 Granite Avenue, EAST MILTON SQUARE Friday from 4 – 7 p.m. Interment, with military honors, at Blue Hill Cemetery, Braintree.
