Obituary for Kevin S. MacKay

Kevin S. MacKay, age 59, of Plymouth, formerly of Marshfield, died peacefully, Friday, October 18, 2024 at Brigham and Womenโ€™s Hospital in Boston, surrounded by his loving family after a courageous battle against cancer.

Kevin was born in Weymouth to the late Robert MacKay and Laura (Dentino) Wilson. Raised and educated in Marshfield, he was a graduate of Marshfield High School. He lived in Plymouth for nine years, previously in Marshfield for most of his life.

Kevin was a pipefitter and proud member of Pipefitters Local 537 for over thirty years, a licensed electrician, and licensed to drive commercial vehicles. He also taught at the Union school for 20 years. Kevin was a jack-of-all trades and multi-talented mechanically. He could design a house, build it, fabricate a wooden kayak, fix your boiler, put in your air conditioning system, wire your garage for power, take a bunch of disassembled parts and build a motorcycle, or create, out of thin air, a stable roof platform needed to put in a new attic window.

Since the young age of about 5 years old, Kevin had a passion for anything with two wheels; be it motorcycles, dirt bikes, or pedal bicycles. He was happiest cruising the back roads on his Harley or breezing up and down hills on his mountain bike. Through this passion for cycling, he met his wife, Jennifer.

One of Kevinโ€™s proudest achievements was riding 8 times in the Pan-Mass Challenge raising over $50,000 for Dana Farber Cancer Institute. A survivor of stage 4 non-Hodgkinโ€™s lymphoma, his first PMC ride was in August 2009 following his final chemo treatment. Along with his wife, Jennifer, Kevin volunteered for PMC weekend the past several years.

A perpetual learner and lover of blues and rock music, Kevin played the drums, guitar and dabbled at piano. An outdoor enthusiast, he loved camping, hiking (had a goal to hike all 4000 footers), kayaking, archery, and even learned to swim as an adult. Kevin also just simply loved to be at home tinkering with his various bikes and playing with his kitty cats.
