Obituary for Karen P. (DeWever) Vallone

Karen P. (DeWever) Vallone, age 60, of Quincy, passed away, Wednesday, September 11, 2024 at home, surrounded by her family, after a long battle with kidney disease.

Karen was born on January 10, 1964. She was the first of four children. Karen attended Quincy Public Schools and graduated from Quincy High School in 1982. She attended Saint Josephโ€™s College of Maine that following September where she studied to become a nurse. It was there she met her now husband, Bob.

Karen had a successful nursing career where she started out working in nursing homes before she landed at Milton Hospital, where she spent a majority of her career. She worked on the medical surgery floor, 2 North for over ten years. From there, she finished her career at Old Colony Correction Center, where she was an overnight nurse.

Karenโ€™s two greatest joys in life were traveling and being a grandmother. She loved the warm tropical climates of Aruba, the Bahamas, and Saint Lucia. She loved taking her two children (even as adults!) to Disney World in Florida, too. Karen enjoyed all the time she could spend with her granddaughter and had hoped one day in the near future to travel with her to Disney World. Karen often said, โ€œShe keeps me going when I want to quit.โ€ Karenโ€™s life dream was to travel to Italy.

Beloved wife for thirty-seven years of Robert โ€œBobโ€ Vallone, Jr.

Devoted mother of Trevor Vallone and his wife Donna, and Angela Vallone, all of Quincy.

Adoring grandmother of her โ€œpumpkinโ€, Leanne.

Cherished daughter of Carol F. (Campbell) DeWever of Quincy and the late Peter A. DeWever.

Dear sister of Steven DeWever and his longtime partner Lynn of Mechanic Falls, Maine, Diane Oโ€™Brien and her longtime partner Dana of Brockton, and the late James J. DeWever.

Loving niece of Sister Patricia Campbell of Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada.

Karen is also survived by many cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Funeral Services will be conducted at the Dolan Funeral Home, 460 Granite Avenue, East Milton, on Wednesday, September 18, at 10:30 a.m. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Visiting hours will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday, September 17, from 4 โ€“ 7 p.m. Interment private.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Karenโ€™s memory may be made to Old Colony Hospice, 321 Manley Street, West Bridgewater, MA 02379 or www.oldcolonyhospice.org.

Angela, Know my thoughts and prayers are with you and your family in this somber time. I didn't know your mom personally, but reading all the kind words of others and having the fortune to call you a good, caring friend, I'm certain her passing was a truly lamentable loss for her community and family especially, and one that came far too soon. Love and deepest sympathies! Alexa
