Obituary for Karen Guerra

Karen Leola Key-Guerra, of Dorchester, born on March 10, 1953, in Boston, MA to the late Walter and Wilhelmina Key. She departed this life on September 27, 2021.

Karen graduated from the Jeremiah E Burke High School in Dorchester, MA and when on to study Art at Mass College of Art.

Karen worked as a Graphics Designer for Baystate Banner and the Commonwealth of Massachusetts department of Transitional Services. She also did work for the MBTA as a Graphic Designer. She was known throughout the Boston area as a black artist and many of her work was displayed in various location throughout the city of Boston.

In 1992, while working on a mural for the for the Four-Season Hotel in Downtown Boston, she met her husband, James Guerra. The two were joined in holy matrimony on June 24, 1995.

Karen loved gardening and you could find her in her garden or tending to the many plants that she had throughout her home. Karen enjoyed traveling, walking, riding her bike, and teaching aerobics. She was advocate for the black community. She was a member of Grace Community Church and attended faithfully until she became ill.

Karen was diagnosed with MS that led to other medical condition, leaving her unable to do the things she enjoyed doing with friends and family. Karen was cared for in their home by her loving husband James until she departed.

Karen leaves to cherish her memories, her beloved husband of James Guerra. Her Sisters Victory Key of Stoughton, MA, Joanne Luacaw or Charlestown, MA, Yvette Key-Jackson (Danny) of Mesquite, TX and brother Spencer Key (Tammie) of Randolph, MA. Her father and mother-in-Law Ronald and Evelyn Guerra, Sisters in Laws, Rhona, Liz, Kathy, Juliana, Marva, Pat and Laverne. Brothers-in-Laws, Richard, David, Kevin, Tyrone and Ronne. As well as a host of niece, nephew’s cousin, and friends.

Visitation at the Dolan Funeral Home, 1140 Washington Street, DORCHESTER LOWER MILLS on Friday October 8th from 10-11 AM. Funeral Service to begin at 11 AM. Interment at Fairview Cemetery.
