Obituary for Juliette F. Mercury
Juliette Floretta Mercury was born on August 30, 1948, on the island of St. Vincent, West Indies to Sevra Cinderella Mercury and Leonard Adams. She transitioned peacefully from this life on August 8, 2025, following an extended illness.
Juliette received her early education in St. Vincent and completed high school in Puerto Rico. She was baptized into Christ in Puerto Rico in the early 1970’s by minister Mitch Williams.
While in Puerto Rico, Juliette provided in-home care to a family of four children and their father following the death of the children’s mother. She moved to the Boston area in the late 1980’s and took a job at Polaroid, where she worked until she was hospitalized due to a reaction to the chemicals she had to work with. Following her hospitalization, she took a full-time position at Emerson College while working part-time at New England Baptist Hospital on the weekends. She later took a full-time position with at New England Baptist Hospital and worked part-time at Shattuck Hospital.
Juliette loved cooking, baking, gardening, crocheting, singing, traveling and quilting. She was a faithful member of the Church of Christ in Roxbury, where she participated in the Mature in Heart and Choral Ministries. As her illness progressed and she became unable to attend services and classes in person, she continued her participation remotely, via conference calls and live-streamed services.
She leaves to mourn her passing and celebrate her life, her daughter, Helen Mercury; grandchildren Dwayne I. Reid, Mark Anthony Kenney, and Carolyn Parker-Fairbain; great-grandson Wayne G. Reid; siblings, Theophilus Mercury, Fastina Rivera, St. Clair Mercury, Sr., Lennox Mercury, Donald Mercury, Kelvin Mercury, Elthrado Adams, Slymore Adams, and Patricia Hamiford; a special niece, Suzette Mercury; a dear friend Lydia Dyette; her church family; and a host of other nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
She was predeceased by her parents, her daughter, Aujah Fairbain, her granddaughter, Marieangelie Carmona, her brothers, Orbeline Thomas and Gregory Mercury, her sister, Elsa Small, and a beloved nephew, Frank Mercury.
Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, August 27th at Roxbury Church of Christ, 81 Walnut Avenue, ROXBURY at 11:00 am. Interment to follow in Cedar Grove Cemetery, DORCHESTER. Repass to take place following the interment at the Unity Sports and Cultrual Club, 10 Dunbar Avenue, Dorcheser. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, August 27th at Roxbury Church of Christ, 81 Walnut Avenue, ROXBURY from 10:00 - 11:00 am prior to the service.
