Obituary for Julia Margaret (Donahue) Smith
Julia “June” Smith of Milton and Chatham, MA slipped away peacefully in her home in Chatham at 97 years on June 3, 2024.
Loving wife of the late Felix C. Smith for 46 years. Devoted mother of Pamela J. Smith wife of the late James Tyrrell III, and Felix Douglas Smith.
Born in Boston, to Julia and William Donahue, she attended Burdett College and on graduation she went to work for the government in the War Assets division where she met her husband Felix C. Smith whom she affectionately called “Cav” after he returned from the European theatre at the end of WWII. They were married on Sept. 4, 1948. Part of the greatest generation, living through WWII.
June was quite talented and creative with an appreciation of art and nature. Her love of music inspired her at a young age and played the trumpet, still hitting some high notes at the age of 96. Her favorite things to do over the years were sport fishing, gardening, feeding, and watching the birds, poetry, knitting and other artistic endeavors.
Always having a great sense of humor, she engaged with relatives, old friends, and friends of her children through the years. June always enjoyed having a good time with everyone. She created bonds with her truly wonderful caregivers and was happy to see each one, affectionately calling them “babes”.
She will be deeply missed by all and live in our hearts and memories forever.
