Obituary for Julia A. DeBurgo

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Julia A. DeBurgo who left this world on October 20, 2026 at the age of 88. She departed peacefully surrounded by family, leaving behind a legacy of love, strength, and kindness that will never be forgotten.

Born on December 23, 1937 in Brava, Cabo Verde, she was the daughter of Arminda and Augusto Andrade. Julia spent many years in Senegal before immigrating to the United States with her family in 1980. While in Senegal, she worked closely as a nanny and housekeeper for the French diplomats and built many close relationships. Once in the United States, she worked for the Colonnade Hotel in Boston’s Back Bay. She was highly respected and was awarded for her longevity with the hotel.

A parishioner of Saint Patrick Church in Roxbury, Julia was a devout Catholic and was very involved in the church. She belonged to the Our Lady of Fatima Association and prayed the rosary often.

Julia made friends all over and kept in touch with them over the years. She was a very generous and caring person that was a confidant and open ear to all. She gave back continuously to family and friends in Brava as well making her a huge pillar in her community back in the islands. Above all, she was a nurturing and loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend.

She and her husband valued honest, hard work, counting their cherished home among their greatest blessings where our family gathers to create memories we will always cherish.

She is survived by her children, Jorge DeBurgo and his wife Deolinda, Antonio DeBurgo and his wife Maria Helena, Christine DaRosa and her husband Jaime, Francisca Camilo and her husband Manny, and Jean (Jeannot) DeBurgo; her grandchildren, Christopher DaRosa, Christian DeBurgo, Louisa Lopez, Yannick DeBurgo, Sarah Camilo, Jessica Evora, Kyle DeBurgo, Lucas Camilo, Zachary Camilo, DeMitri DeBurgo, and Jeanique DeBurgo; her great-grandchildren Ezabella Lopez, Elias Lopez, Jason Valdez, Ezaiah Rodriguez, Evelise Rodriguez, Isaac Evora, Analeia DeBurgo, and a new addition on the way; her God-children, Jose Andrade (to whom she was a mother,) and Domingas Tavares; her sister, Ilda Andrade, brother, Joao Baptista Andrade and his wife Millie; she also leaves behind a cherished circle of family including Pedro and Teresa DeBurgo, as well as many other beloved brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, and nephews.
