Judith Morrissey of Milton, died August 7, 2022.
Beloved wife of the late John P. Morrissey. Devoted mother of Jennifer Hayes and her husband, Sean of Arlington, Jonathan Morrissey and his wife, Karley of Milton. Daughter of the late James P. Sherwin Sr. and Mary Ellen (Looby) Sherwin. Loving sister of Kathryn S. Buckley of Osterville, James P. Sherwin, Jr. and his wife, Gwen of Northborough, the late Teresa M. Maxwell and her husband, John of Marshfield, and the late Stephen F. Sherwin. Cherished Grandmother, “Mimi”, of Caden and Brendan Hayes of Arlington and Maeve and Declan Morrissey of Milton.
Judy was born on May 24, 1943 at the Chelsea Naval Hospital. Her first three years of life were spent in a quaint cottage in Chatham. Her father was stationed at the Chatham Naval Air Station during World War II. This is where Judy’s love for the ocean and Cape Cod began. Judy was raised in Boston. She graduated from St. Gregory’s School Dorchester. In Judy’s next chapter, she became Sr. Ellen St. Patrick, SND. She went on to study Sociology at Emmanuel College and later found her calling in elementary education. Judy’s teaching career started at St. Charles in Woburn. She later went on to teach in Brockton Public Schools. While raising her family, Judy had a home daycare, Rainbow Preschool for over 8 years. Judy’s most beloved time teaching was spent teaching Kindergarten within Braintree Public Schools. Judy retired from the Hollis School in Braintree in 2009, having taught for over 40 years and positively influenced the early education of thousands of children.
Judy was predeceased by her dear husband, Johnny. Meeting Johnny and discovering the great times the Cape and the Mountains had to offer brought so many cherished memories and lifelong friendships. Judy and Johnny traveled on ski trips to Europe, but their best times were spent skiing at Wildcat as members of the Makusue Ski Club in North Conway, NH.
Judy and Johnny settled on Eaton Street in Milton where they lived and raised their family.
Everything that Judy did, she did with great love and passion. The greatest love of her life was her beautiful family. Judy, Johnny, Jennifer and Jonathan spent countless summers at the Seacrest on Old Silver Beach and winters in the mountains of North Conway. Together they created memories that Judy retold to her beloved grandchildren and friends.
Judy’s favorite name was Mimi. Beyond teaching the grandchildren, nieces and nephews to read, she spent countless hours doing educational activities with them. Judy was beyond proud to return to teaching CCD in preparation for her grandchildren’s first communion.
Another great love of Judy’s life was reading. She filled her days in retirement with a love of books. Judy loved to read, listen and share books with dear friends and family. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Judy’s memory to the, “Friends of The Milton Public Library” 476 Canton Avenue, Milton, MA 02186.
