Judith McGillicuddy, 84, of Milton, MA (OFD) passed away peacefully on June 1, 2021 surrounded by her loving family.

A lifelong educator, she shared her passion for history, language arts and the world with her students at Ursuline Academy in Dedham and in Boston Public Schools.

Born and raised in Dorchester, MA by the late Leo F. and Mary C. (Philbrick) McGillicuddy, Judith graduated from Monsignor Ryan Memorial High School ’53, Boston State College ’57, and earned her Master’s degree at Fitchburg State College in 1995.

An historian at heart, Judith’s knowledge of Boston, Dorchester and Milton was ever-present in the many stories she shared with her family, students, and local authors. She was a voracious reader and a devoted supporter of the JFK museum, greater Boston public libraries and local historical societies. She loved spending time with her grandchildren, Saturday morning excursions to Filene’s Basement and a good yard sale.

Mother of Maura Humphrey and her husband Herbert of Milton, Brian Scanlon and his wife Annika of Reading, Deirdre Sassaman and her husband Brad of Franklin, and Cara Scanlon and her wife Michelle of Weymouth. Cherished grandmother of Ryan and his wife Carolyn, Zachary, Kevin, Mae, Caroline, Bridget, Cole, Nathaniel and Michael. Great grandmother of Anna. Sister of Robert McGillicuddy, David McGillicuddy and the late Leo Paul McGillicuddy. She was also blessed with many nieces and nephews. Her life was enriched by her Old Colony Hospice team and caregivers, especially her dear friend Suze Joseph.

Visiting hours at Dolan Funeral Home, 460 Granite Avenue, Milton, Wednesday, June 9 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Saint Mark Church, 1725 Dorchester Avenue, Dorchester, Thursday, June 10 at 10:00 AM. Family and friends invited. Burial at Milton Cemetery will be private.
