Obituary for Judith Graney

Judith “Judi” Graney, of Quincy, age 56, passed away peacefully on October 30, 2023, after fighting a courageous battle of lung cancer.

Judi was a lifelong resident of Quincy. She attended Quincy Public Schools and graduated from North Quincy High School class of 1985. The most important aspect of Judi’s life was her daughter Britney, “her love”. She was so proud of Britney and all of her accomplishments.

Judi was predeceased by her loving parents, William E. and Dorothy J. Graney. Loving mother of Britney Simonds of Quincy. Sister of William E. Graney, and his wife, Kathleen, of Marshfield; John F. Graney, and his wife, Maureen, of Milton; Marianne Keenan, and her husband, Anthony (Joe), of Quincy; Tracy Abber, and her husband, Joseph, of Dedham; and the late Joseph Graney. Cherished aunt of Heidi Church, Billy Graney, Joseph Graney, Samantha Renner, Elizabeth Graney, Caroline and Lilly Keenan, Thomas and Courtney Abber, and the late Patrick Graney. Judy is also lovingly remembered by extended family and friends.

Judi will be missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing her and loving her. Judi was a dedicated employee and passionate cashier. You could most recently find her at Stop and Shop in North Quincy. She made many new friends and welcomed many customers with her friendly smile, great sense of humor, and contagious laugh. When not working, Judi enjoyed her morning walks to Dunkies, day trips to Dennisport and Provincetown, and helping neighbors and friends shovel their way out of blizzards.

Judi loved dancing, singing, and following her favorite band, Syd Slacks, around Quincy. During these last 4 months, you could still always find Judi out walking, giving a wave and a smile. Judi was a true fighter and never let her diagnosis get in the way of living out her life the way she wanted.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend visiting hours on Monday, November 6th from 11 AM - 1 PM at Dolan Funeral Home, 460 Granite Avenue, East Milton Square. A funeral service will follow at 1 p.m. in the funeral home. Interment in Blue Hill Cemetery, Braintree, MA.

I uploaded a video of Judy and I at one of the very last times I was with her in Quincy in May 2021. She was like a younger sister to me and every time we were together she had smiles and laughter for everyone. My sincere sympathy to her entire family, especially her daughter Britney, I remember when she was pregnant with Britney and so very happy at the thought of becoming a mother. Judy will be greatly missed! May she rest in eternal peace.
