Obituary for Josephine M. Cappuccio
Josephine M. Cappuccio, who was featured on the front page of the Boston Globe when she was born a triplet in 1955, went on to work at the newspaper in the advertising department for more than 25 years. Throughout her life, she was an active traveler, an avid gardener, a voracious reader, a good cook, an excellent baker, and a great mom who passed away on September 9 after a long battle with cancer. She was 68.
Josephine was the daughter of Giuseppe Cappuccio, who was born in Boston, and Theresa Cappuccio (Manganese), who was born in Sant’Angelo all’Esca in Italy. She lived on Savin Hill Avenue in Dorchester much of her early life, attending Monsignor Ryan Memorial High School. She attended Northeastern University for one year before transferring to UMass Boston, where she majored in French and spent a year abroad in Paris, gaining fluency.
She worked in the sports department at the Globe, transferred to the newspaper’s library where she helped reporters dig up information for their stories, and eventually landed in the advertising department selling advertising to auto dealerships.
She traveled widely – to Israel, Egypt, Kenya, South Africa, Australia, New Zealand, Canada, Europe, the Caribbean. She also traveled all over the United States, visiting Hawaii several times, touring and hiking most of the national parks, and rafting the Colorado River for two weeks through the Grand Canyon.
Josephine lived nearly all of her adult life in Milton. In 1997, she gave birth to her son Erik and continued to travel, work, and try new experiences. She moonlighted as a photographer, mostly for school and neighborhood events but also professionally. She enjoyed working in her garden, and was often called on for horticultural advice by her neighbors.
She is survived by her son Erik Mohl, 26; Bruce Mohl; two sisters, Maria Holster and Caroline Cappuccio; her triplet brothers Andrew and Emilio Cappuccio; and her niece Melissa Holster.
A memorial gathering will be held on Wednesday, September 27th from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Dolan Funeral Home, 1140 Washington Street, DORCHESTER LOWER MILLS. Friends and family are invited to come and share your memories.
