John Thi, age 69, of Dorchester, MA, passed away on January 31, 2025 with his loving family by his side.He is deeply missed by his wife, Maria of Dorchester, MA, and his children: Joseph of Milton, MA, Paul of Peabody, MA, and Katherine of Dorchester, MA. His cherished grandchildren, Tyler and Lucas, will carry on his legacy. He is also fondly remembered by his daughter-in-law, Thu. John is survived by his sisters Maria Ly of Dorchester, MA, Mary Thomas Ngo of Quincy, MA, Monica Nguyen of Dorchester, MA, and Jacqueline Nguyen of Bridgewater, MA, as well as his brother, Paul Hung Nguyen of Dedham, MA. He will be dearly missed by his extended family, including his nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends.
Born on March 26, 1955, in Phan Thiet, Vietnam, John served as a soldier in the South Vietnamese Army. Amid the turmoil of the Vietnam War, he escaped to America in 1975 in pursuit of a better life. In 1987, he met his wife, Maria, in New York, and together they moved to Boston to start a family, raising their three children, Joseph, Paul, and Katherine.
In 1988, John founded ABC Maintenance of Boston, where he provided employment opportunities for newly emigrated Vietnamese refugees, helping them find work as they built their own careers. Known for his quick wit, roaring loud voice, and unwavering kindness, John will be remembered as the big guy with an even bigger heart who loved to travel and seek adventure.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, February 8, 2025 in Saint Gregory’s Church, 2215 Dorchester Avenue, Dorchester, MA 02124 at 10 o’clock. Visiting hours in the Dolan Funeral Home, 1140 Washington Street, DORCHESTER LOWER MILLS, Thursday, February 6 and Friday, February 7, 2025, 4-8pm. Interment Cedar Grove Cemetery Dorchester.
