Obituary for John James McKiernan
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of John James McKiernan Sr., of Milton, who peacefully entered into eternal rest on June 26, 2026, at the age of 89.
John was born on October 9, 1936, in Ballinamore, County Leitrim, Ireland. He later made his home in Massachusetts, where he built a life defined by faith, family, hard work, and unwavering devotion to those he loved.
John was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Christina Ann McKiernan. He is lovingly remembered by his children John and Laura McKiernan of Dedham, Steven McKiernan and partner Cara Kelley of Hyde Park, Frank McKiernan of Randolph, and Christine Cox and her late husband Donald of Braintree. Known affectionately as “Papa,” John treasured every moment spent with his grandchildren, Lauren and her husband Kevin, Michael and his fiancée Amanda, and Daniel, Ryan and Anna, and was a proud great-grandfather to Thomas, Cameron, and Owen. Brother of the late Christina A. Stanford and her husband Carl. His family was the greatest blessing of his life.
John was an avid fisherman and hunter who found peace in the outdoors. Whether casting a line on a quiet morning or enjoying the beauty of nature. A master carpenter by trade, John’s craftsmanship was second to none. His remarkable work ethic, attention to detail, and pride in every project earned him the admiration of everyone who knew him. His steady presence, gentle wisdom, and generous heart will be deeply missed but never forgotten.
We are eternally grateful to the staff at Alliance Braintree for the compassionate care provided to him for the last year.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in Saint Agatha Church, 432 Adams Street, Milton Tuesday June 30 at 10:30 AM. Relatives and friends invited. Visiting hours at Dolan Funeral Home, 460 Granite Avenue, EAST MILTON SQUARE Tuesday 8:00 – 10:00 am. Interment Milton Cemetery.

I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Henceforth there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness…” — 2 Timothy 4:7–8
May the road rise to meet you. May the wind be always at your back. May the sun shine warm upon your face, the rains fall soft upon your fields, and until we meet again, may God hold you in the palm of His hand.
Forever loved. Forever remembered. May he rest in the peace of Christ.
