Obituary for John "Jack" F. Doyle
John “Jack” F. Doyle, 73, of Milton passed away September 24, 2021.
Born and raised in South Boston to the late John J. and Margaret (Mullins) Doyle. He grew up in the Gate of Heaven parish in South Boston Mass and attended the grammar and high schools. He graduated high school in 1965 and went into the Pipefitters Local 537. He went on to work at different companies including Jarvis Engineering, Lappan Brothers, Deaconess Hospital, and the Boston Globe where he retired from in 2008. Because of his ‘take charge’, charismatic personality, he was the foreman or supervisor at most of his jobs.
He had a lot of hobbies over the years: boating, collecting antiques, playing the lottery and enjoying life on the Cape and West Island. He decided to learn to play the Irish Fiddle at age 50 and soon became a familiar face at the sessions at the Green Briar and Comhaltas Eireann functions. He embraced his Irish heritage and loved to share it with his friends and family. His grandchildren fondly remember being carted around town with the latest jig or reel blaring in the car.
Jack was an active participant of life and his quick wit and Southie street smarts could not be matched by anymore. Always one to provide one liners he made sure he kept everyone humble. Whether it was CEOs of the Boston Globe or prominent doctors in Boston, everyone remembered him after meeting him.
He had some crazy antics, but he was also responsible and the guy that one could count on. He gave of himself in so many ways. From being Santa Claus at the South Boston Yacht Club and Globe Christmas parties to being a softball and basketball coach he helped out wherever it was needed. He was the person who was called upon in times of crisis. He was a steady presence and just knew what to do to calm the situation. Several co-workers recalled how he physically saved them from workplace accidents, and they would be forever indebted to him. Other friends recall how he would show up with bags of food at their house. A frequent visitor to Green Hills bakery in Dorchester, he would often get extra bags of scones or half and halfs to give to others.
Although he could be cranky and sarcastic, he would do anything for anyone and never sought credit or accolades. He gave of himself humbly and unconditionally to all his family and friends. He will be missed by so many.
John was the beloved husband of Dolores A. (Ziolkowski). Loving father of Joanne Doyle Petrongolo and her husband Carlo Petrongolo of Quincy. Cherished grandfather to John Carlo and Olivia Petrongolo. Cherished brother of the late Joseph T Doyle and Mary Call of Milton. Brother-in-law to Kenneth Call, Lillian Doyle, Marian Ziolkowski, the late Stephen Ziolkowski and Fr. Adam Ziolkowski. Lifelong friend to Dr Dennis and Martha Burke of Milton. Loved by many nieces, nephews, and cousins from all around the world.
