Obituary for John F. "Jack" Hines III

John F. “Jack” Hines III, 72, of Squantum and OFD, passed away peacefully. Born in Boston, he was the beloved son of the late John Hines and Jane (Nagle) Silva.

Jack attended Dorchester High School before leaving early to proudly join the United States Marine Corps. A true artisan of finished carpentry, Jack spent the majority of his career remodeling brownstones throughout Boston’s Back Bay. Among the landmark buildings showcasing his exceptional craftsmanship was the historic Locke-Ober Restaurant.

Jack was a very social person who loved being surrounded by family and friends. He especially enjoyed his annual half ball games in Dorchester, where he proudly reigned as champion. In recent years, one of his greatest joys was attending his granddaughter Ava’s T-ball games.

Jack was the beloved father of Jeff Hines and his wife, Kim, of Weymouth, and the proud “Grampy Jack” to Ava and Liam. He was the loving brother of Jane Dickerson and her husband, Joe, of Florida.

Jack is also survived by his stepchildren, Sean Wilshere and his wife, Patty, of California, and their children, Grace, Claire, Jack, and Connor, who lovingly referred to him as “Cupcake Jack,” and Danielle Hannigan of Boston, and her children, Olivia, Michael, Ella, and Jacqueline.

He is also survived by his stepsiblings, Carol Woolston and her husband, Tim, of Winchester, and Ann Welsh of Woburn.

Jack will also be lovingly remembered by his longtime companion, Barbara Cobb, with whom he shared a special and cherished bond.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Jack’s memory may be made to the Massachusetts Veterans Foundation, Inc., 24 Beacon Street, Room 546-1, State House, Boston, MA 02133.
