Obituary for John Di Piero

John Robert Di Piero, 92, of Quincy, Massachusetts, passed away peacefully on July 19, 2025. Born on May 19, 1933, in Boston, Massachusetts, John was the son of the late Vincent and Mary (Morra) Di Piero, and brother to the late Rosemarie (Di Piero) Ryan.

John is survived by his children, Lisa Kilgo and her husband John of Hillsborough, New Hampshire; Vincent Di Piero and his wife Suzanne of Merrimack, New Hampshire; Suzanne Caravaggio of Wrentham; and Melissa Di Piero-Hudon and her husband David of Tyngsborough. He was the proud grandfather of John and James Kilgo; Alexander and Nicholas Di Piero; Kathryn, Juliana, and Anthony Caravaggio; and Justin, Jeremy, and Sienna Hudon. John is also survived by his long-time companion, Doreen Cook, several nieces and a nephew, and numerous friends. In addition to his parents and sister, John was predeceased by his son-in-law Colby Caravaggio.

John served in the Navy during the Korean War and was recognized as a combat veteran. He held various jobs in his community, having worked at the Quincy Shipyard, the United States Postal Service, and local funeral homes. He also was known for his entrepreneurial spirit and owned a bread delivery company, serving the Greater Boston area.

John had a thirst for knowledge and often said he knew just enough about a lot of things, especially cars, politics, and good food. He made an impression wherever he went. It was common for him to ask people where they were from and their birth date, using the answers to these two questions to relate back to the individual ‘s culture and personality traits through their zodiac sign.

He thrived working for the service of others in the community, A strong advocate for veterans, he was an active member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the American Legion, and the Lions Club. He stood up and relentlessly fought for what he believed was right and supported numerous charities, including the Judicial Watch, Wounded Warriors, Shriners, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, and the Salvation Army.

John will be missed deeply by his family, friends, and all who had the pleasure of knowing him.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday August 1, at 10:30 a.m. at Holy Trinity Parish, Most Blessed Sacrament Church, 1031 Sea Street, Quincy, Massachusetts. It was John’s wish that family and friends would come together not in sorrow but in joyous celebration.

    I always enjoyed my conversations with John; usually seeing him on Independence Day every year for the last couple decades. His keen sense of humor and wry wit always kept me on my toes, along with his extensive wealth of knowledge. Thank you for your service to our homeland. Part of the Greatest Generation. I remember when he & Doreen would come into the restaurant weekly & we all had a lot of laughs exchanged news of the day & had a genuine friendship. He always was funny , engaging & kind.
