Obituary for Joan Walsh

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved mother and grandmother, Joan (Higgins) Walsh, of Milton, Massachusetts. Joan passed peacefully after a brief illness on March 27, 2026, surrounded by her loving family.

Joan now joins Thomas P. Walsh, the love of her life and her devoted husband of 56 years, in heaven.

She is survived by her three children: son Brian Walsh and his wife Janice of Medfield, Massachusetts; son Robert Walsh and his wife Kathleen of Milton, Massachusetts; and daughter Susan Walsh of Dallas, Texas; as well as her grandchildren, Sara Sansoucie and her husband Matthew of Plaistow, New Hampshire, and Conor Walsh of Easton, Massachusetts.

Born in Dorchester, Joan was the youngest of nine children of John and Ellen Higgins. She cherished growing up in a large, close-knit family.

Joan met her husband while working at The Gillette Company, beginning a lifelong partnership built on love, laughter, and raising their family.

A remarkable woman, Joan lived life to the fullest inspiring others along the way. She found her greatest joy in spending time with her loved ones. Her favorite moments were having family around the table, especially when she did not have to prepare the meal herself.

Joan enjoyed traveling the world, first with her husband and later with her children and grandchildren. Her favorite destination was the Mediterranean, where she most recently visited in the fall of 2025.

She also had a well-known love of shopping—anywhere, anytime, any store—it brought her great happiness.

Since early 2020, Joan had been living in Dallas, Texas with her daughter, a joyful and wonderful situation for them both.

Joan will be remembered for her warmth, her boundless energy, and her frequent use of the expression “life is good”. Her presence will be greatly missed and forever cherished.

Burial will be private.
