Obituary for Jean Jules Lucien

Jean Jules Lucien was born on March 14, 1946 in Gonaรฏves, Haiti. He was the son of Claire Pierre Charles and Dervil Lucien who are both deceased. Jean prided himself on being a scholar. In Haiti, he attended Normal Superior School College of Education where he graduated with majors in Modern Languages, Philosophy and Psychology. After completing his graduate studies, Jean started teaching math to high school students. His love of numbers led him to go back to school to get an accounting certificate. His skills and experience as an accountant ushered the way for him to work for the Haitian government in the Foreign Affairs Department. He maintained the position of Chief of Service for 17 years.

In 1996, Jean Lucien immigrated to the United States with his two children, Val and Clara Lucien. Once in Boston, Jean found his way back to education by working in the Boston Public Schools as a substitute teacher and then, as a paraprofessional. Jean regarded learning as an adventure. This motivated him to work with children of various ages until his retirement in 2016.

Many who encountered Jean Lucien, described him in so many words as intelligent, humble, kind, and respectful. Jean was an avid reader. He was fluent in many languages: Haitian- Creole, French, Spanish, and English. Languages allowed him to feel connected to others. Jean believed that you must show others kindness and respect. He always found a way to spread his kindness to all of those who met him. He lived an honest, benevolent life and will be deeply missed.

Jean Lucien succumbed to his health issues on March 28, 2023. He is survived by his daughter Clara Lucien and his son Val Lucien, granddaughter Nyla, upcoming grandson (Luca), Sylvia Escoto, and stepmother Mrs. Helene Laure Lucien. Jean had 13 siblings. He was preceded in death by Jean-Claude Lucien, Lucille Lucien, Yolรจne Lucien, Marie Yola Lucien. He is survived by the remaining siblings: Vanyola Lucien, Ruth Dubois, Natacha Thomas, Hรจlรจne (Choupette) Miss, Malaika Lucien, Marie- Josรจ Lucien, Mireille Lucien, Dervil Lucien Jr., and Merlek Lucien. He is also survived by our support system whoโ€™ve been our extended family: The Cadets, The Mliliuses, and Silvia Murillo.
