Obituary for Irma Germaine Vance

Irma Germaine Vance, born on May 28, 1947, on the island of Trinidad and Tobago, passed away peacefully in Milton, MA, on September 18, 2025. She was the second of six children born to Agnes and John Moses.

Growing up, Irma was quiet and calm, but she is remembered as creative, resourceful, reflective, feisty, and fun. She was a trailblazer in her own way, even as she honored her parents’ strong emphasis on education.

In September 1969, Irma moved to the United States, where she earned her certification as a CNA. She worked in numerous hospitals, including Metropolitan State Hospital, Massachusetts General Hospital, Mass Eye and Ear Infirmary, and Harvard University Infirmary, where she cared for patients with compassion and dedication. Beyond healthcare, she also held positions with Blue Cross Blue Shield and John Hancock, became a licensed cosmetologist, and served her community. She later ran a licensed home-based daycare, allowing her to be present for her children while supporting other families. In time, she opened her heart even further by becoming a foster parent to two children, Amanda and Tisha. They remained close, continuing to stay in touch and lovingly calling her ‘Mommy’. She also informally cared for countless others who came into her home. She later worked with at-risk youths at The Home for Little Wanderers. Additionally, she sold Tahitian Noni products, frequently speaking at their events and passionately encouraging others to lead healthy, prosperous lives.

Irma was the proud mother of four children: Latoya, Clauberte, Robert (Junior), and Latisha. Later, Irma became a grandmother and great-grandmother, and her family was her greatest joy. She was kind, generous, compassionate, and empathetic, always giving selflessly to those in need. In the late 1980s and early 1990s, she lovingly cared for her elderly parents, and later, she continued to support her family by caring for her grandchildren.

Irma’s creativity extended well beyond her career. She designed and crafted her own curtains, tablecloths, bathroom accessories, and jewelry. Though she dreamt of one day selling her creations on Etsy, she never stopped glorifying God for the talents He had given her.

A woman of style and grace, Irma believed royalty was a signature of her ancestry. She had a radiant sense of humor, a joyful spirit, and the gift of making everyone around her laugh. She carried light wherever she went. A devoted prayer warrior, she prayed daily for her family, extended family, and friends. Having once survived a coma lasting two weeks, Irma lived with profound gratitude, faith, and resilience, embracing every day with joy, peace, and thanksgiving.

Irma was preceded in death by her parents, John and Agnes Moses; her brothers, Ellis and Hollis Sandy; her sister, Ann Marie Bynoe; and her nieces, Benita and Marita Sandy, as well as Nicole Nadine Lyder. She is survived by her four children, Latoya, Claubèrte (Urban), Robert (Ketesha), and Latisha (Valantino); her beloved grandchildren, Isaiah, Isaac, Latoya, Genesis, Sarai, Shiloh, Skye, Jade, Tess, Rudell, Makayla, and Arianna; her great-grandchildren, Omari and Truce; her siblings, Joan (Carl), Marilyn, Johnny (Viola), and Donna (Eric); her aunt, Rosa Smith Pinkney; along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.

As we reflect on Irma’s life, we remember the lessons and values she instilled: faith, courage, hard work, humor, and love. Her legacy inspires us to live with gratitude to God, joy in our hearts, and kindness toward others. Though Irma is no longer with us, her laughter, generosity, and strength will remain in our hearts forever. May we honor her memory by carrying forward the same grace, humor, and compassion she shared with us all.

Viewing will be held at the Grace Church of All Nations,33 Elm Hill Avenue, Dorchester on Friday, October 3rd from 10-11AM. Funeral Service to begin at 11AM. Interment at Oak Lawn Cemetery.
